Baltimore County - A Baltimore County man accused of shooting to death a moviegoer at an Owings Mills theater this summer is proceeding with an insanity plea, and is set to have a court-ordered brain scan next week.

Mujtaba Jabbar, 24, is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center in connection with the June shooting at the Loews Valley Center 9, in which he allegedly stood up in the middle of “X-Men: The Last Stand” and opened fire on the audience, according to court records.

Paul Schrum, 62, a husband and father from Pikesville, was killed in the shooting. Jabbar walked out of the theater, set the gun down on a counter and sat in the lobby as authorities arrived, according to police and court records.

At about 8:30 p.m. on June 16, 2006. Mujtaba Rabbani Jabbar, 24, stood in a packed Loews Valley Center movie theater in Owings Mills northwest of Baltimore and "started firing as people were watching" X-Men: The Last Stand," according to a police account. He shot Paul Schrum, 62, a Pikesville medical supplies salesman sitting near Jabbar, three times in the upper body with a .357 magnum handgun, killing him.. Jabbar then walked to the lobby, placed his gun on the counter and waited for police. County detectives said they knew of no motive for the shooting. It bears noting that Owings Mills is a heavily Jewish area.

I was summoned for jury duty and questioned in a trial involving a Muslim who had killed his wife's family over some issue of her disobeying Islamic law. He had plead guilty and was pleading "insanity". So, if you do what Mohammad and the Koran tell you to do then you must be insane?

PS, I was dismissed so fast I didn't know what had happened when I disagreed with the idea of an insanity defense. One second I was in the jury box, the next I was standing outside the court room.

PPS, I later saw in the paper that the selected jury denied the insanity plea.
