Bob Dylan's "Modern Times" Freeper reviews

Bob Dylan's Modern Times. Released Aug 29,2006.

I purchased this CD today and listened to it in it's entirity. It's an excellent album, and has some really good moments on it. I think Bob Dylan fans will like this release.

I purchased a limited edition version that has a DVD in it also. The CD has 10 new Bob Dylan songs on it, and the DVD has 4 previously released songs... (I've not viewed the DVD yet).

The CD starts fast and plays strong. Songs 4, 5, and 6 come together in a strong way making my favorite portion of the album. The album is called Modern Times, but the style is old. It's not folk, but it's old..... and it's solid. The band is excellent, and Dylan's wraspy vocals provide the edge that these songs need.

I highly recommend it for Dylan fans. If you don't like Dylan... go buy a Beyonce cd or something :)

I just thought it might be fun to start a thread for freeper reviews. I hope I got it started in Chat and not in breaking news.

ROFLMAO!!

Thanks for the review and I do plan on getting the CD. I've always liked his music and since there have been a few good documentaries on Dylan lately I've gotten to know more about who he is.

Thanks for the heads-up! Is this a full-production Dylan CD or are we still in the spare, "unplugged" vein?

His last two unplugged albums were in the early 1990s. His two most recent CDs and this one are with full tilt band.

It's full production. There's one song on this thing .... Workingman Blues #2..... all it needs is Al Cooper playing a B3 organ. But it's still VERY good.

Okay, I have to stop back here and thank you for your review. I picked up the CD yesterday and I'm enjoying it.

Thunder Mountain is the perfect opening song and each track behind it works. It just flows right.

I know Dylan is not one to be influenced by anyone but one song on the album has a Leon Redbone kind of edge to it. That's "The Levee's Gonna Break", and it's probably the best track on the CD as far as I'm concerned.

The CD was on sale at Circuit City for $9.99. Not a bad price at all.

Ooooops, the opening track is "Thunder on the Mountain", not Thunder Mountain.

Yeah... I put that thing in and heard BANG... blues guitar licks ... pause.... BANG... more blues guitar licks etc. Then the song kicks in. Excellent start to an album.

I like the whole CD. There are some great lyrics on it.... and some great music. I'm still gravitating to cuts 4, 5, and 6 as my favorites on it. :)

Just available in UK. Excellent stuff. Quality will out.

....even my wife found it 'listenable' (hearty praise indeed!).
