A woman in Hohhot, the capital of north China's Inner Mongolia region, crashed her car while giving her dog a driving lesson, the official Xinhua News Agency said Monday.

No injuries were reported although both vehicles were slightly damaged, it said.

The woman, identified only be her surname, Li, said her dog "was fond of crouching on the steering wheel and often watched her drive," according to Xinhua.

"She thought she would let the dog 'have a try' while she operated the accelerator and brake," the report said. "They did not make it far before crashing into an oncoming car."

Xinhua did not say what kind of dog or vehicles were involved but Li paid for repairs.

I'd worry about Shelley taking the car while I'm at work and driving up to the PetSmart to put doggy treats, rawhide bones, and squeaky toys on my credit card.

Or picking up her good friend Tori for a night on the town. I bet the bartenders wouldn't even card them.

She was just trying to release her Inner Mongolian.

We all know that dogs are smart but not smart enough to drive cars. The woman, Li, must have known that before hand.

And, if Tori is as pretty as Shelley, that's just asking for all sorts of trouble and unwanted dog attention. Pit bulls (from the wrong side of the tracks) calling the house at all hours, "Yo, is Shelley there?" that sort of thing. Just a whole can of worms that doesn't need to be opened.

Ursa would probably return the car with an empty tank, forget to get the oil changed, leave half empty cups of coffee in the car (spilled, of course).

Are you going to cut it out right now or do I have to stop this car?

Of course, if that dog was REALLY driving, he'd have one paw on the wheel and his head out the window.

I think she was definitely barking up the wrong tree with this stunt.

This operation was not exactly a howling success.

Well, by that news report, we know it wasn't a Republican pit bull driving an SUV. :o)

Not only is Tori a pretty girl (in more of a field trial style than Shelley) she is also a party girl.

In fact, we just went to a doggy dinner party at Tori's house last night. After running in the agility yard and chasing some bumpers, the dogs had a sumptuous dinner of sauteed venison, green beans, and kibble, then napped under the table while the humans had barbequed ribs, cornbread, scalloped potatoes, salad, and creamed corn, with Scotch Trifle for dessert.

I should have a snapshot soon of Tori and Shelley sleeping off their feast . . . the photog is Emailing it to me. They look like a playing card, because they're lying on their sides back-to-back, facing opposite directions. . . and snoring gently.
