OK, I know this is a month-old article, but I just came across it last night. (Someone posted an odd thread with a picture of Eddie Van Halen, and I thought maybe he died or something, so I googled EVH up.)

Man oh man, how far Eddie's fallen. For those of us in our late 30s or so, Eddie Van Halen was a rock god of the highest order - bringing musical innovation in equipment and tuning along with his hard-charging riffs. (The guy even has a patent!)

But now this, along with the fact that he's the very picture of a meth-head. Ugh. No wonder Valerie Bertinelli didn't want to hang around that. Frankly, Eddie Van Halen is on my deadpool list for 2007....

Meth head...? The guy survived oral cancer and can't kick the cigarettes and Moosehead. I never heard of meth in the picture.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Watching the decline of Western Civ. continues even through my little window. I postulate the continued merger of mainstream entertainment and base pornography: We've already seen entertainment "borrow" themes within porn - voyeurism, amateurs, disparate pairings (racial, ethnic) - all of these have prime time alphabet network shows w/ one of these themes. Also witness television predicated on violence and a celebration of countermanding moral values a la Jerry Springer. Porn and "guilty-pleasure" televison/film are more similar than different, and both lead to the same mindset, one that is not God-fearing.

Mid-40's you mean. (Geez... I always thought my little brother was swiping my VH records when I wasn't around: now I got proof! I'm telling Mom!)

So now Eddie is doing porn. Great. Can't wait for his re-make of "Hot for Teacher." Not!

I saw a recent video of Diamond David Lee Roth live. There is nothing so sad: an antient rock-and-roller who has lived his life too hard for too long. Pudgy, with long blond (receding?) hair -- couldn't tell if it was really all his or fake. And in spandex with a gut. (Spandex is a right not a privilege! Mick Jagger pay attention!)

That's not even anything *like* growing old gracefully -- or even disgracefully. That's just plain-and-simple passing by the use-by date: long ago. Just like that lump of dried-out, rock-hard mouldy cheese in the back of the fridge that for some reason nobody has gotten around to throwing it away.

Scary. Just bloody scary.
