Heh... this is my home town. I've not seen any raccoons lately. But the woman quoted about raccoons just being cute and cuddly is an idiot. Raccoons are a wild animal and they scrap for a living. If threatened I think they could do some damage to even a sizeable dog. If one has pets, one should never feed or encourage raccoons to hang around.

I had a raccoon threaten my car one night.
I was driven my duster (miss that car!) and as I turned a corner, a raccoon reared up on it's hind legs as if to take on my car.
I stopped and saw this little parade of babies trot across the street behind her.
Once they were crossed, she went on her way behind them.
It was very cute; but I bet you anything she would have taken a run at me if I was in my car.

I had racoons coming in my house thru the cat door. She taught the kits that my house was where they come to eat every night.
Trapped them all, sent them off with animal control and they came back (from 10 miles away.) Now they know about the traps.
The best way to catch them is SARDINES. so I loaded the traps with sardines and caught all but one. he seems to have taken off.
Didn't like the final solution, I guess.

You just send 'em up my way. My son is terrific with a rifle.
And that's what they'll find waiting for them here, should they decide to migrate a bit north. Cause it doesn't sound like even our huge rooster could take on these raccoons.
