It is now August 22nd in Iran. As many of you know, there have been rumors of big events for the 22nd. Some have predicted that Iran will attack Israel, while others have said that nothing out of the ordinary will take place.
This year, August 22nd corresponds to the 27th of Rajab on the Islamic calendar. Muslims believe this to be the day when Muhammad traveled from Mecca to Jerusalem, and then from Jerusalem to heaven in order to meet with the prophets and to meet with Allah.
Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that August 22nd, 2006 is the date which Iran will respond to the nuclear incentives package offered by the United States and several European nations. If nothing else, we expect to hear whether Iran has decided to accept the incentives package, or whether they have decided to reject it.
However, many analysts believe that Iran will attempt something daring today. Iran has test fired several short-range missiles in the past few days, and there have been rumors of Iranian officials being present for Kim Jong Il's failed long-range missile test. All of this added in with the rumors of an imminent nuclear test by North Korea and Ahmadinejad's anti-Semitic rhetoric make one wonder if something big will happen today.
So, will August 22nd turn out to be a day of madness? Will there be more missile tests? Will there be a nuclear test? Will there be terrorist attacks? Will there be an attack on Israel? Or will it just be an ordinary day?
We will find out in mere hours.
No, actually it starts at first bomb.......
August 22 is Cindy Williams' birthday. They must Shirley be serious.
Ahmanutjob is on his flying horsey as we speak, hot-hoofing it to Jerusalem. Look - he's already reached the opposite corner of his padded cell, and now he's on his way back. Go Mahmoud Go!
I suspect you're right. I thought they considered their new day to start at 6PM...if that's true then we've been in their 22nd for 8+ hours. And the 22nd will end at 5:59PM...
Do I still have time to get a BBQ?
Pork, sliced, outside, with stew, slaw, and texas toast?
It is serious... and don't call me Shirley.
Iran announces its Arak heavy water plant will soon be operational
The announcement came from Dep Dir of Irans nuclear program Mohammad Saidi hours before Tehrans promised response to the world powers incentive package for halting uranium enrichment. According to an unnamed source in Vienna talking to AKI, new centrifuges have been installed at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility over the past week. The Arak plant could produce plutonium for nuclear bombs by an alternative method to the uranium enrichment process
I take it that they're going to reject the incentive package.
Sounds like a good first place to target.
After all this build-up, it's going to be a big let-down if nothing in particular happens.
Let's face it, we're just itching for Iran to do something crazy so we can get some clarity on military action.
The Iranians are too cunning for that, I suspect. My guess is that today we'll get more of the same balancing act - no preconditions on talks, but uranium enrichment is still up for negotiation. In other words, exactly the position that will make getting a sanctions regime through the security council virtually impossible. Especially since uranium enrichment for energy purposes is legal under the NPT. It's a real bind.
I could be wrong, of course. It's been known to happen.
what was the old joke - Hitler would die on a Jewish Holiday - how do you know? trust me the day he dies will be a Jewish Holiday.
hitlers gone, many more lined up to take his place...
So, what happens if Isha does not ride in on a cloud in the next few hours? Will they make up lame excuses? Claim that he did but only the 'pure ones' could see him?
Has the Mahdi started climbing out of the well yet?
Yessss.....
Take a closer look, if you dare.
LOL ... Love that movie.
LOL!
Go, Cowboys!
