4 Texas lawmen shot; standoff ensues
MIDLOTHIAN, Texas - Three Midlothian police officers and a state trooper were shot Sunday during a standoff at an apartment complex, officials said. All four survived. The gunman had not surrendered Sunday evening.
Trooper Rick Smith was shot as he responded to the report of three officers being wounded, said Lisa Block, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.
Smith was in fair condition at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Kathleen Beathard said. The conditions of the Midlothian officers were not immediately available.
Block said Midlothian police called for assistance about 3:20 p.m. Rounds of gunfire broke out again about 5:30 p.m.
Midlothian is about 25 miles southwest of Dallas.
Richard is unlikely to survive this incident.
Need more input.
He's toast!
The life expectancy of an individual that shoots a Texas DPS trooper or a Texas Ranger is in the neighborhood of 0.

Another perp with the middle name "Wayne". Amazing.
The story says he was struggling with family and lack of work. Sounds like "suicide by cop".
Maybe he should have moved to the northeast where someone would pay for therapy. This idiot shot a Texas state trooper. Suicide by cop? Hardly. But the feds are welcome to spend a few million to figure out exactly which of the seventy rounds killed him. Then try to pin it on a specific weapon. Seems like the feds had a little problem the last time they went to Texas and had an armed standoff. That is highly unlikely to ever happen again. Mount Carmel and the way it was handled cast a pall over the fine men and women with DPS and the Texas Rangers.
The best way to commit "suicide by cop" is to shoot one of them first.
