I have a lot of time either covering prosecutors or supervising reporter who did.
This prosecutor has made no effort to play with the press. She has had one press conference to say only the following. That her office has been working on investigating Karr for several months. That she takes great care to never go public with a case until the investigation is nearly complete.
She said that is the only way to be fair to the accused. And she said she just asked the media to let her do her job with out comment on her part.
The prosecutor's name is Mary Lacey. She has not promoted herself at all. She answered questions once the media learned that he was being deported from Thailand. But she said the minimum.
But she did not cover her ass. She did not "say person of interest". She said the investigation is substantially complete. That is prosecutorese for we have enough to nail his butt. However if we can learn anything else we can use use against him we will use that too.
I get very suspicious when prosecutors try to go public a lot.. Nifong and the ball players is an case in point. Nifong had all of 70 press conferences to try to sway the jury pool. He does not have a case.
On the other hand a prosecutor with a slam dunk case will let the media speculate that she is a dumb prosecutor that is just believing an idiots confession. Then when she gets to court and lays out her case, those who made fun of her look like fools, and she looks like superwoman.
When a prosecutor refuses to talk, the media almost always tries to paint the defendant as innocent. That will usually bring the prosecutor out to talk to the press. That gets a dueling prosecutor VS defense attorney array of sound bites. It has not brought this prosecutor out to play. That speaks volumes.
I have never found a prosecutor who does not even try to influence the jury pool, who has lost a case. It is always a slam dunk.
Those that try the case in the media don't have a case for the court room, and those that have a slam dunk case for the court room are fearful they may say something that will get the killer off on a technicality. They don't talk to the press. Mary Lacey is not talking to the press.
Let's hope you're right, but thus far, he is reported only to have been at home with his now former wife during the time of the murder.

Clearly someone in her department leaked the fact that there was a person of interest.
