I am disturbed by the ex-wife's alibi for Karr. How many young chidren did they have in 1996? It would be unusual for a husband to not be home at Christmas and easily remembered as the year Daddy wasn't home for Christmas for whatever reason.
She would definitely remember a Christmas w/o him and she says he was with them. Why would she lie about it?
