The DNA was put into a data base, but for what ever reason, they could not match it up with anyone.
From what I read this is the first time they have had contact with the suspect.
He was kind of discovered through Internet communications with details he should not have known.
He was then looked for, but being out of the country they supposedly had trouble finding him.
Yet, here is his resume apparently very available in the net. Including the part about you bathing young girls.

So, there had to be some contact with the USA IMO.
How is it that a DNA match wasn't made back in 1997 or 1998? This pervert was a suspect back then. This sounds like a sloppy police investigation. The police were fixated on the parents, particularly the mother. The former DA in the case publicly admitted as such, critisizing the police for being blind to any evidence and ever covering up evidence that pointed to an outside perp.
The mother died last year of cancer. Too bad she isn't still alive to be vindicated, but died knowing the world thought her guilty of killing her daughter.
