Arrest in JonBenet Ramsey Case Expected "Shortly"
8.16.06 | Michael King

Posted on 08/16/2006 1:17:08 PM PDT by mhking

An arrest in the JonBenet Ramsey case is due to happen "shortly," according to sources in our newsroom -- I know I can't post the link to our site (we're a Gannett station, and despite the "ban", I would welcome the traffic), but most of you know where I work and what the site is...

According to our sister station in Denver, an arrest took place early this morning in Thailand.

Stand by for details and updates as they come in.

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- The number of tourists seeking sex with children in Asia is on the rise, and more of them are Asians themselves, officials and experts said.

Cheaper airfares, the opening of countries once closed because of war or politics, and the advent of the Internet all provide more options for pedophiles who go abroad looking for underage sex, and "opportunistic" sex offenders who visit bars and brothels on vacation.

Countries such as Cambodia and Vietnam, largely off the tourist map until a decade ago, are now vulnerable, as are established sex tourist destinations like Thailand, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, said Christine Beddoe of ECPAT, an organization that fights the sexual exploitation of children.

That is the first I've heard about him suing the Ramseys. I just heard Fox change their statement from "years" to "months" (the length of time Karr has been emailing Patsy).

Who here is going to have the guts to be the first to say that he or she was wrong?

No. She was in kindergarten in Boulder. He was a second grade teacher in Georgia. (As far as anyone knows right now). But exactly WHEN he was in Georgia is up in the air.

He's been in Thailand for a couple of years now. I wonder what other crimes he is being investigated for?

Right now, this whole thing sounds suspicious. There are reports of him having lived near the Ramsey's place in Georgia. So let's see, he committed this horrific crime in Colorado and then packed up his bags and followed the Ramsey's to Georgia? If so, why? And how did he know about the $118,000 amount? And why bother writing a 3 page ransom note for that matter?

Also could it be that he learned of additional details in this case via his emails to Patsy Ramsey (assuming she replied to him)?

I have no doubt that this guy has done some terrible things but at this moment i have my doubts that he was the one who killed JonBenet and until further details come out i am leaning towards this being a deranged phony confession by a guy desperately seeking to become famously infamous.

Oops - now they're back to "years".

What bothers me is the guy has emailed "crazy" emails for years.

And if he had been emailing for years, the authorities would have tracked his PC by now (no matter what country) --- even multiple (hundreds, perhaps thousands) of PCs ago. You don't necessarily need a static IP to be caught -- even typing on different computers at the same library should have busted him by now.

I think she was too young to be in the second grade.

Teachers don't always teach at the same grade level. They are certified usually for K-6. That would be "elementary level" depending on the school system and the need at the time.

I wonder if Jonbenet ever needed tutoring, or a private teacher, as she was traveling around doing the pagaents...

Thank you for stating what I was thinking about
"same clothes / next day" theory. There was a
fire in our neighborhood a few years ago, and
we all threw last night's clothes on ... in a hurry.

Yeah. When I first heard of this, I was all for bringing him back to the states. But, if he's already in jail and scheduled for Thai Justice, I say let him stay. I'd trust their justice system, long before ours, considering the degenerate attorneys and judges who are out and about...

It doesn't seem so. Just that he is a second grade teacher

Good point.

From what I understand of the justice system in Thailand, it is brutal, but not necessarily fair or even handed and is subject to the same corruptions and payoffs as are found in many third word counties. But perhaps I got this impression from watching the movie Brokedown Palace.

But then again our legal system is more abused by liberal judges and the terminally political correct.

But if this guy is guilty of murdering that innocent little girl, then I say he should be executed buy whichever jurisdiction has the balls to do it. Can he be tried in Texas?

I remember very well. A very large percentage of accusers hated her because of who she was. And the letter gave them cover.

I admit, the note was puzzling. But who would have thought that scum bag in Florida could sneak into a trailer leaving NO evidence, kidnap Jessica Lunsford, hold her while the world was looking for her and then bury her alive?

Sometimes we try to make things fit what we think is logical.
