One week vacation driving from San Francisco to Seattle Hoping FReepers can add suggestions and recommendations. Planning to travel the coastal highway but would like to know when to get off to see some great sites.
Enjoy your trip.
I love the Peninsula. We like driving out to Kalaloch on the coast and going to Olympic. Caught a nice trout on the Bogachiel River near Forks. The Hall of Mosses in the Hoh Rainforest is awesome..
University of Oregon Ducks. If you stop by just before a football game you can see thousands of sitting ducks.
Capitalizing on his friendship with a Disney cartoonist, UO Athletic Director Leo Harris met Disney in Los Angeles. The two men reached an informal agreement granting the University of Oregon permission to use the Donald-like Duck as its sports mascot.
This makes a good stop on the way back to the coast from Crater Lake.
I fish the Oly peninsula rivers quite often. Trout, steelies and big salmon are there for the taking.
If you spend any time out there, you are bound to see a herd of Roosevelt elk.
I saw a bunch of them fishing in the HoH one year. We camped on the beach at Kalaloch afterwards. Then drove around the 101 to Aberdeen and had a Yak burger at some diner near the waterfront. Washington is one of the greatest states..
indeed it is.
We land in San Francisco at 3:20 them have to get car and head out we did make reservations in Santa Rosa the first night then on to Eureka. I will keep my eyes out for the Denaby studio. Thanks.
There weren't any signs back then. One had to know how to get to it. There's a hill between the road and the studio which is on the bay north of the bridge. We had to call the studio to find out how to get to it. They might have a map and addy on the web, now.
I just think that anyone who likes fine dinnerware and fine pottery as well as crafts would find a visit to the studio well worth the bother. But I think it's within 1-4 miles of the bridge--and closer to the bridge than I thought it would be starting out.
Have a fun trip. Congrats.
A 260Z we are into cars big time. We have a rental convertible. To fill our fun on the road do you have a suggestion for a great road to have fun. We just finished the Blue Ridge Parkway and Tail of the Dragon in NC. There is a tree at the start of the Tail that has all the parts of motorcycles and cars that didn't make it. There is no safety guards on that road- go off- you are gone.
Sorry. Am not so up on roads and such.
I can strongly suggest this . . . even if you are traveling the long flat straight highways from Phoenix to San Diego in the middle of the night. Watch out.
New Wife cruised along at 120mph. I got caught doing less than that but more than 95 charged with. Only ticket I ever got--on my honeymoon.
There are a lot of Colo roads--"million dollar highway" that are fun. Certainly Oak Creek canyon between Flagstaff and Sedona is great but slow and often full of slow moving traffic on the 2 lane scenic highway.
North Cascades highway is beautiful.
I hope you have time to take the ferry up to Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island or is it Victoria Island--I forget. Worth a visit, for sure.
About all I can pontificate about. Sorry.
The one thing now that I am concerned about is that we do not have motel/hotel reservations after Eureka. Do you all think that we should get on this in the morning and have reservations for the week?
Suggestions are welcome if you think that we need to.
This one is very funny. I put magazines in stores. The magazine rack is right by the Pharmacy and think you would be surprised the amount of young women are into those drugs Anyway I thank you for info.
Actually, the 10' squirrel statue and the squirrel bridge are REAL!
Salty's on Alki and Ivar's are both in Seattle. Ivar's is in downtown, at the waterfront, and Salty's is across the bay. Any local map will have the locations. Both wonderful places to eat, and the view from Salty's is breathtaking of the city, especially at sunset.
I beg to differ with you. I smile ALL the time and say hello to everyone I meet. Of course, I am originally from the south...
I recommend a visit to Mt. St. Helens here in Washington State. It is incredible.
You bikers out there or crazy car nuts if you are ever on the East Coast run the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tail of the Dragon. See Tail of the Dragon.com. In any case thank you all for your help. Keep it going.
When you get to Portland, Oregon, head east on I-84 to the Columbia River Gorge. Truly beautiful. If you are into geology look up the Bretz (Missoula) Floods for the origin of the Gorge.
The squirrel thing is funny. We used to live in Amherst MA and they created a tunnel for a lizard. Now I believe. Thank you so much for the restaurants. I love it. I am not afraid now and look forward to flying. UMMM
What is the Tacoma aroma? I have told about this but have not experienced it.
