Crosby, Stills and Nash living with ‘War’ and Young
Boston Herald ^ | 08/14/06 | Brett Milano

For all their checkered history of breakups and reunions, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young are in the middle of their most active decade. (snip)

...Young was looking for a major tour behind his latest album, the politically charged “Living With War.” The entirety of that disc is being played, along with songs from the solo and group back catalog. But instead of greatest hits, they’re looking to do politically relevant songs.

“We didn’t have to look very hard,” Crosby said. “We’ve never thought war was a good idea, and we still don’t. Those young people we sent to Iraq, God bless them, they’re the best we have. But let’s not waste them earning a profit for Haliburton and Bechtel and whoever makes the tanks.”

Don’t suggest to Crosby that political rock is dead.

“Have you heard the Pink song?” he asked, referring to the hit “Dear Mr. President.” “Someone showed me that clip on YouTube and it knocked my head on the pavement. Sure, there’s a lot of people sleepwalking, but there’s an upswelling of anger and frustration in this country; people are sick of being lied to. We’re seeing that at our shows. We sing ‘Let’s Impeach the President’ and the audience is on their feet cheering.”

So far, CSNY seems to be avoiding the backlash that hit the Dixie Chicks.

“Well, you know why that happened,” Crosby said. “The same people who are George Bush’s strongest supporters own a company I can’t mention, but you know who they are, and they own 14,000 radio stations. That one really slapped a lot of musicians in the face.”

This is your band on drugs.

Laura I. But-Monkey alert: "But let’s not waste them earning a profit for Haliburton and Bechtel and whoever makes the tanks.”

>>a company I can’t mention

Clear Channel, I think he means, and they have maybe 1,400 stations not 14,000...and I believe more than a few of them run Scare America...

By the way, as to the number of stations Clear Channel owns (if he means them), I did a quick websearch and turned this up, from no less a source than Rolling Stoned Magazine: "Clear Channel controls roughly 1,200 radio stations" (not 14,000, Mr. Crosby)

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/6432174/inside_clear_channel/

From the same Rolling Stone(d) piece: "Critics say the company also has a political agenda, given Clear Channel executives' close ties to George W. Bush and the company's willingness to drop Howard Stern at a time when many media companies are fighting for free speech."
So maybe that's whom Crosby meant.

Yet more proof - as if any was needed - that David Crosby consumed way too many drugs in his time.

That explains it!

He probably took drugs, because he couldn't stand himself. I was at their concert when Nixon resigned. They shot the fireworks off early, when they made the announcement. Being quite young, I didn't know any better being there. Although, I didn't cheer, it was very sad the President resigned. All I wanted to hear was "Our House." We never did. The crowd wasn't quiet enought to hear Crosby's acoustics! Now, with a new liver, sperm donated to a famous lesbien couple to procreate the race--Crosby is still fat and even more obnoxious. Some of the "pinks" will come. I imagine most of them will be free tickets. Big bunch of has beens. Big bunch of losers.

I've been a big Neil Young fan over the years and I thought he got it with LET'S ROLL after September 11. So off I went to see him a couple of years ago. His entire concert was a new material save for two numbers done in the encore. Now his latest ... ugh!

Won't be seeing him this go-round.

I haven't kept up with Neil Diamond. That's a Neil I'd go see. Ah...we'd all feel a little bit older, but the memories would be good. I saw Jay and the Americans about 5 years ago. Jay's hair was completely white. He however could still sing as when his hair was black, and his stage presence was better than outstanding.

Here's a website for one of those "far-right" Clear Channel stations Crosby was talking about. Note the "days until Bush leaves office" ticker, the "Democrat Clubs" sign up box, and the lineup: Stephanie Miller, Ed Schulz, Randi Rhodes... :)

Yeah, keep telling your self that. Aren't you due for another liver, Dave?

I haven't kept up with Neil Diamond.

Neil Diamond’s last album, “12 Songs” was his best selling record in thirty years. It was produced by hip-hop legend Rick Rubin (who also worked with everyone from Johnny Cash to Slayer to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.)

It’s stripped down, acoustic and excellent.

I modified the lyrics from their song "Ohio":

Aging hippies and foolish pinkos
Like rats they live in a hole.

Kerry lost and it's time to get over it
We won in Ohio.

Thanks. I'll have to look it up. Unfortunately, you had to tell me about it. His publicist should be doing a better job. IMO, his voice should be timeless.

BULL ZOGBY!!!

I did some research on this earlier today and see that the guy who booked the show and the 2 country stations in town that boycotted broadcasts for the Vichy Chicks all have NO Clear Channel ties.

Radio, promoter each blames other for cut in Chicks tour (Houston Chronicle 8-15-06)

The stations in question were KKBQ and KILT.

Clear Channel formerly owned KKBQ and was forced to divest (Cox now owns it).

KILT is owned by CBS/Viacom.

Clear Channel (through SFX, formerly PACE Concerts, formerly OWNED by Messina) had the contracts for concerts at most of the larger venues in town (Messina recently built his own large venue now that he is past the "no compete" period of his sale to Clear Channel).

I see that in 2005, Clear Channel split off the concert business from the main company.

So the Vichy Chicks were shut down by Viacom and Cox. And booked by Messina.

No Clear Channel involvement.

Anyone want to bet that CSNY has at least one Clear Channel Entertainment (severed from Clear Channel the radio and billboard company) show on their tour?

If Clear Channel was behind the Ditzy Chicks tour problems, why wouldn't they also hassle the more outspoken CSNY?

Crosby would probably be dead of an OD if he hadn't been busted in Texas in the 1980s.

Randi Rhodes? The woman who made a death threat against the president on the air?

I'll bet David Crosby owns Halliburton. Does he have any of his millions in an index fund or almost any diverse blue chip stock fund? He lends money to this evil war profiteering company, too, if he has a money market fund holding top grade commercial paper.

Crosby divest! Crosby divest! Crosby divest!

So anyone who supports the war is sleepwalking, and the only people who get it are the leftist idiots who support islamofacism.

What an arrogant, bigoted POS. Isn't he due for another liver?

Rick Rubin sucks. He payed big bucks to record the UNIDA album (John Garcia from Kyuss) and then shelved it when he divorced Sony.

"Left Us To Mold" indeed!

I heard that Jay Black enjoys using foul language at his concerts and many fans have actually walked out in disgust.

No, dumbass. It's about audience expectations. Fans of CSNY expect to hear protest lyrics and stuff. Maines and her mainstream C&W/bluegrass band mouthing off on foreign soil about politics was likely the last thing most Dixie Chick fans expected or wanted to hear.
