36 years old and green hair. This liberal bigot was the guy behind Punkvoter.com and the "Rock Against Bush" CDs in 2004.

OK, I'm officially old--I have never heard of any of these bands.

I've never heard of a single one of the bands mentioned. Does that mean I'm an old fart?

You aren't the only one.

"A lot of bands are here to further their careers," he continued, "and that's not going to happen. You think a band goes on the Warped Tour and suddenly they get big? It's going to happen to somebody, but it doesn't make your career. There are 100 bands on the tour — with so many choices, the only people who are going to watch you are the people who [already] like you."

So why tour on a mammoth show getting paid peanuts for someone else's enterprise and giving the crowd only a 25 minute set?

Screw the Vans Warped Tour (and Fat Mike's record label) and tour independently.

You're not old. The bands suck. That's why you haven't heard of them.

I listen to a lot of Christian rock, but not really Underoath. It's too screamy for me. That said, this is a good illustration of how difficult it is for a Christian band to deal with the secular music industry.

They're still running the Warped Tour? Geez.. After the first couple of years, there wasn't anything worth going to see on the bill. I'd thought this thing had flamed out and died sometime around 02.

Welcome to the old farts club.

Here are your "Tune that music down" and "You call that music? In my day we had real music" buttons. The handout has all the ways to use the helpful phrases "Kids these days..." and "When I was your age..."

Welcome to old fartdom!

I am a HUGE fan of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. That said, I have met Fat Mike and he does seem like an arrogant, annoying (yet also somewhat amusing) jerk. His politics are another matter. I once read a political screed he wrote for some local Bay Area punk music magazine (the kind they leave stacks of for free in local hipster cafes) and it was absolute bilge. Ignorant, hateful, vulgar, badly written and just plain stupid. People can be good at one thing (he's in two successful bands and owns his own record label, Fat Wreck Chords) and still be completely worthless on the subjects of politics and public policy. Fat Mike is such a person. I'm not just saying he's a leftie. He's an utterly vicious and purile leftie beyond redemption.

Thank you, and I would like to thank the Old Farts Academy for this great honor. I'd like to say more but I have to go take my nap.

Listen to some rockabilly. It's getting called punk rock retirement for all the new rockabilly converts (and I'm talking people who listen to the real deal, vintage Sun artists, not psychobilly or cowpunk).

Rockabilly is OK but not really my thing.. I'm a true old fart and pre-date punk rock (which I could never really stand..)

I'm mostly listening to hard rock/blues bands like Gov't Mule these days.

My husband just came got home from the Warped Tour playing about 10 dates from Salt Lake City to Chicago and he said it was a Bush bash from almost all the bands. He's glad to be home. Some of his "road stories" include drama/tension between the bands so this story comes as no surpise.
PUNKVOTER LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, rumor is that Underoath's singer was caught "partying" with one of the other bands on tour. They are a "straight-edge" band (no drugs or drinking) so they bailed....

I hate the idea of being in a rock band and not partying. It seems so against everything rock is about.

And any time I hear about Christian rock bands I have to think of the immortal Hank Hill's words on the subject, "You're not making Jesus better, you're making rock worse."

How many straight edge kids does it take to drink a six-pack?

1 if no one is looking.
