The Dixie Chicks' Oct. 7 concert at Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center has been canceled. No one wants to say precisely why or whether the show will be rescheduled -- at press time a venue official said confirmation is forthcoming, and the Chicks camp in Nashville did not return phone calls or e-mails.
But according to Pollstar, the concert industry's trade organization, the Oct. 7 date is now reserved for a concert in Australia.
The conservative country music community has had a beef with the Chicks ever since lead singer Natalie Maines spoke out against President Bush and later criticized country fans for their reactions. Ticket sales in Red States have been sluggish throughout the tour.
I never much cared for them, long before the outburst. They represent pretty much everything that's wrong with country music today.
IMO Groupthink begins when the popular viewpoint becomes the only tolerated viewpoint and you can see plenty of examples of that on FR, not the least of which is the treatment of chicksy dix fans.
Who would want them, though? I can see a liberal Vince Gill or Pam Tillis touring with them, but I don't think they are top billing anymore. Maybe Faith Hill - she's been whiny a lot in the past year and isn't really country anymore - so they'd fit in with her.
There are many, many good musicians in the world that no one has ever heard except their families. May it become the same with the Chicks.
Tune your radio to 99.5 and then get back to me :)
I actually have a preset set to that station.
And I still stick by my statement, "we don't have a country station here."
Or maybe it was groups like MoveOn that bought the stuff and dumped it in homeless shelters and land fills... Who knows?
I am sure they can tour lots of third world countries with the 80s hair bands.
Exactly! Why pay any attention to the Chicks when The Who is on tour!
I think they're calling this tour "Who's Left?" :-)
Cheers

A week or two ago the Dixie Chicks played at the Pepsi Arena in Albany New York, a 15,000 seat indoor facility.
They had 4,000 - a total failure.
I know what you're saying. When we lived in Chicago we liked to listen to Country Gold Saturday night with Big John Howell. That was pretty good.
Wow... you'd think they would be giving the tix away via promos and stuff to get the place at least filled and make it up on concessions and stuff... less than 1/3 full... Ouch.
Their rotation consisits of Kenney Chesney, followed by Rascal Flatts, followed by Tim McGraw, followed by Faith Hill, followed by Kenny Chesney, followed by a top 40, followed by Alabama, followed by Kenny Chesney. And for you Kenney Chesney fans heres another Kenny Chesney song, about life when he was young.
They did give tix away.
Might I add Dustin Hoffman, Michael Caine and Sir Lawrence Olivier?
Lots of Industry corporate purchases and the usual Vandy-Hillsboro Village-East Nashville-Queer Nation libs who will buys their tickets to prove a point.
I bet they still falter bigtime here.
Yup...Great business model...break free of contract, debt encumbered, acquire new debt and then p***off the bulk of your customer base, and cancel concerts due to lack of interest. Man, the money must be rolling in.;>)
You heard it here first!
Long Time Gone was such an anthem back then....72 maybe. Hearing Long Time Gone was like an emotional thing. Like hearing "I Saw The Light" by Hank Sr would be today to me.
Can't remembert that show too well....Me and the Bear..lol
Lord I was such a lefty (yippie) then
