My Mom is Catholic and a big time Jew hater. I don't get it.

My Mom is Catholic and a big time Jew hater. I don't get it. Jew-hating is a proud and old European and Catholic tradition, just like Catholic-hating was popular and acceptable among old-time Southern Baptists.

Well, I am a Catholic convert and if I had heard even the whiff of anti-semitism while going through RCIA, I would have noticed.
There are some Cathlics who are anti-semitic, just like there are some Southern Baptists. It has nothing to do with the faith, but rather has to do with the family in which one was brought up, and the attitudes of one's friends during one's formative years.

I'm a lifetime practicing Catholic.
Frankly, I don't understand anti-semetism.

because some people believe Jews hate Jesus and are responsible for his death on the cross, rather than realizing that Jesus offered Himself on the cross for all of our sins and that includes the Jews.

I don't understand why anybody hates anybody collectively, whether or not they know them.

Some previous generations were raised with the "Jews killed Jesus" message.
