I got lost in Philadelphia one time about 20 years ago.
Was driving around at about 11 at night.
Went into the only open place i could find, it was a liquor store. I asked the old black man how to get to the New Jersey Turnpike. He looked at me like I was a crazy man and said "A stupid white boy like you has about 30 seconds to live down here. Get back in your car, find a bridge, get across the river and ask somebody over there, now git outta here"
Never been so scared, unless it was that time in Denver...

There's nothing quite like getting lost in a strange city, recognizing an area, then realizing that it was familiar because it was featured on the TV show "Cops."

Cross the bridge into Camden NJ and your're as good as dead. If you think Philly is bad, go see Camden, NJ.

Back in the early 70's while looking for gas I got lost off the south side of Chicago late at night.

There was nothing open and I was getting down to where I was going to run out somewhere. So I eased into a closed for the night gas station and parked in with the rest of the beaters awaiting service, and then spent the rest of the night laying low (literally lol)

Reminds me of when I went to Philadelphia, on the way to the airport, I went down a major street to get some azo standard for my daughter from drug store. We went in the drug store and there was a plaque for a police officer killed there. The streets were littered with papers and plastic bags. We went in McDonalds across from Walgreen's and one of the customers told us to get out of there pretty fast. We left post haste.

Im from Chicago. IF you're white and get off one of the expressways, eg The Dan Ryan and wander off, then stop and ask for directions you're dead...I mean dead.

When I worked in Philly we had a high school intern who worked for our company. He worked late one night and I offered to take him home. He accepted the offer but would only let me take him to a certain point. He said it wasn't safe for me to take him all the way home.

Funny you two should say that. I was just about to post to Calljack that I lived in Philly, and it wasn't anywhere near as scary as the one time I visited Chicago. I visited a friend there who had the idiotic idea to walk us through "the real Chicago." Oh, the remarks made as we passed through... Philadelphians are downright friendly in comparison.
