Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?
let's see if the dashboard camera video/audio is released.
Probation |
Fines & Fees |
Driver License |
DUI School |
Jail Time |
3 to 5 years of Court Probation |
A fine, including court fees and costs of $1400 to $1800 |
6 month loss of California Driver License |
DUI (Driving Under the Influence) School |
MANDATORY JAIL TIME |
This means no probation officer to report to, but absolutely no drinking and driving during that time period. |
This can be paid over time for an additional charge, or in full within 45 days. In some courts people can work off part of the fine through community service. |
As of September 2004, it will be up to the Department of Motor Vehicles to decide if a restricted California Driver License should be issued. A suspension means absolutely no driving, a restriction allows driving to and from work or school. |
Depending on your Blood Alcohol Level DUI school may be as low as 12 hours or as much as 45. This is dependant on your attorney as well. The California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs maintains a list of DUI Schools |
There is a required 48 hours of jail time on a first offense DUI. It is possible to have this time converted to work service. |
Absolutely. Would you please explain that to muawiyah, he doesn't seem to grasp the concept of what really happened here.
He should be sent to my house, where he will perform many chores. ALWAYS FULLY CLOTHED! ( I know where these threads end up). He will be forced to write a book on the Holocaust, and teach it. But mostly, he'll just weed the garden...again, always fully clothed.
Sorry, I don't think this is such a big deal. He got drunk, he drove, and he shot his mouth off. Thankfully, no one was hurt. I think it's a bit much for an entire country to be aghast at one dumb drunk's actions. I don't care how famous he is.
So in lieu of jail time he can do COmmunity Service, right?
First I want to say that I am glad for once a celeb admitted what they did and APOLOGIZED for it. So many of them deny and act like they themselves are the victim.
Regarding his punishment, how about make him listen to Barbara Streisand albums for 24/7?
I take it you're not Jewish in today's world where millions and millions of people around the world want to kill you. Maybe if you were, you'd understand why this is more than just a "drunk shooting his mouth off."
I will stick with George Orwell. His statement about "smelly little orthodoxies", regarding the "thought police". In Canada we have clerics supporting terrorist bombing against Israel. Heaven knows how many stupid rotters, who have been training overseas, suddenly returning to Canada. The new Canadian government keeping tabs on them.
The ADL will do quite a number though, on the deniers of the holocaust. It, of course, happened over 60 years ago.
You are attempting to ignore the obvious and that is context. Gibson is drunk. You're not.
Crucify him?
I think his punishment should be that he should go visit the death camps from WWII. My father help liberate one. Real eye opener.
What do you want his punishment to be?
in vino veritas
His crime was driving under the influence and he will be punished accordingly. What he says in a drunken stupor (or out of one) is of no consequence.
"What he says in a drunken stupor (or out of one) is of no consequence"
Well.. we'll see about that.
I'll bet he has some stories to tell. Although, if he's like a lot of those guys, he may not be eager to talk because of bad memories.
DUI is against the law, anti-Semitism isn't, consequently any punishment he receives cannot take into account his bigotry.
