Since so many here want so much to forgive Mel Gibson for his anti-semetic tirade and beligerent behavior towards law enforcement I was trying to come up with the best punishment. I think I got it. Besides the obligatory fine, I think the Judge should sentence him to 500 hours community service at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. What do you all think his sentence should be?
There'll be forgetfulness soon enough.
What I won't forget is all the gloating from the anti-Passion crowd here on FR, hoping to shame and embarrass those who found the work important and monumental. Mel disgraced himself, but an artist's work is almost always better than the artist. We see that over and over in the "creative classes" --the celebrity we hope to meet is a jerk, but his work will transcend him.
There were those here hoping to slap Christians moved by "The Passion" upside the head and jeer at them, and they got their chance to try.
But, you know...for all the squawking over the past few days about Naughty Mel and That Terrible Movie, it was all from the same few posters who kept starting new threads to rant and vent and "I told you so". Turns out their presence on FR is not so big as they thought it was
Your continued posting of your school-marmish tut-tutting is becoming spam.
Just for future reference, sinkpur, I don't intend to post further to you.
Fine. I will post to you, however, when you attempt to act as a thread nanny.
Well said.
Ah...well I am not at my best in the morning-not a morning person LOL!
Who's spamming?
And people who complain about "Merry Christmas" and the true meaning of Christmas should spend a month of Sundays at an evangelical church.
That's a whole different can of worms.
I think I'd wait until he was found guilty before deciding on a punishment.
The only thing I could think of was that he might have had a bad meeting with a Hollywood mogul (who happened to be jewish) and he might have been turned down for financial backing or something and he was lashing out at jews in general. Whatever it was, I hope he gets his life back on track.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt for a crime he's already admitted to? wow...
Well, on some level he's already in a Hell of his own making. He "owns" Malibu, he has millions, and yet he is clearly a deeply angry, frustrated and unhappy man.
I think he's beyond a cure. He's clearly his father's son.
If Hollywood shuns him, that would be an appropriate punishment. I believe they will. His life has changed. His mask has come off. That's pretty severe.
No it's not.
Great idea. I'll bet he hasn't heard of the Holocaust, and will have a change of heart once he learns about it. /s
I don't really think that Mel is desperate for financial backing, as he has more money than most anyone in Hollywood. I would, as you say, like to know what precipitated the outburst...It's just odd to be stopped by cops and blurt out slurs against Jews! Weird.
Well, his Father doesn't seem to believe it ever really happened, but you probably didn't know that considering your snide comment.
In vino, veritas.
Mel was a hero to many. A saint perhaps. It must be very painful and embarrassing for some people here to face the truth about him.
the alcohol talking?....he blew a .12. The legal limit in CA is .08. .12 is equal to about 3 beers. He new PRECISELY what he was doing and saying. He lost his temper and did what most bigots do...blame the group they hate the most. In fact, when he was taken into custody, he apparently started hitting his head on the chair saying, "I'm F**KED." He was well aware what was going on.
