Its on Yahoo. A real shame if true. I'd thought we'd found a real hero. Looks like we may have just been witness to a cheater.

I am still stunned if it is Landis and this occurred DURING the Tour AFTER 20 some cyclists were disqulified for doping, if true not only venal but remarkably stupid. Some day, I assume that one of the accused cyclists is going to blow the lid off on the extent of doping in professional cycling and who knows which past winners might be dragged into it. At that point, they'll have nothing to lose and no reason to protect others. In any event, this is very bad news for the millions of us who are Tour fans and the young kids who would look up to Landis as a role model.

They are all use doping. it is part of this useless sport. it´s the same with the sprinter. They discovered balco Jones and all the other were punished but at the same time ten new guys showed up until they get tested positive.

They found EPO in armstrongs blood from the years when epo could not be tested. The same is true for Ulrich basso and all the other guys.

I am sure all american sprinters take doping as all the others that take part in this sport at a certain level. The guy with the best pharma support wins. The big pharma companies should sponsor these sports as in the formula1.

Merk against Pfizer or Bayer.

Drudge id reporting:

LONDON (AP) -- Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone during the race, his Phonak team said Thursday.

The statement came a day after the UCI, cycling's governing body, said an unidentified rider had failed a drug test during the Tour.

The Swiss-based Phonak said in a statement on it Web site that it was notified by the UCI Wednesday that Landis' sample showed "an unusual level of testosterone/epitestosterone" when he was tested after stage 17 of the race last Thursday.

"The team management and the rider were both totally surprised of this physiological result," the statement said.

Phonak said Landis would ask for analysis of his backup "B" sample "to prove either that this result is coming from a natural process or that this resulting from a mistake."

Landis has been suspended pending the results. If the second sample confirms the initial finding, he will be fired from the team, Phonak said.

Yup! Unfortunately this is an epidemic in all sports. Even in baseball, football there is this problem. I blame everything on the entitlement mentality that this country has been devoured by. The "its not your fault" "you're very special" crap has permeated into the minds of many young Americans who refuse to take accountability for anything. Liberalism has seeped into our beloved sports. No winners in Little league, everyone gets a trophy is a testament to the ill effects of the 60's and 70's.

I would hope so. And i'd hope for a lifetime ban. If true then I have little respect left for Floyd and he shouldn't be in the sport.
