I was thinking the same thing, I bought one back in 1999 for $80.00 it's waterproof and floats.

I am an experienced hiker. GPS units do not work well in heavily wooded areas because the trees block the satellite signals needed for them to work. Also, most units are battery hogs. Better to take a simple $5.00 compass and map. More tree hugger stupidity.

If they can afford a Mercedes Benz, maybe they should invest in a GPS receiver.If they weren't smart enough just to hike back downhill as soon as they realized they were lost, I doubt a GPS would have done them much good anyway.

In their case, perhaps a long rope tied from their waists to the car door would be a better "guidance system".
