I am an experienced hiker. GPS units do not work well in heavily wooded areas because the trees block the satellite signals needed for them to work. Also, most units are battery hogs. Better to take a simple $5.00 compass and map. More tree hugger stupidity.

Also, if you get lost on a trail while going uphill, a good plan would be to stop, turn around, and begin walking downhill rather than forging on uphill.
