Emotional Tiger Woods wins 11th major
By DOUG FERGUSON, AP Golf Writer
HOYLAKE, England - Tiger Woods bottled up his emotions when he buried his father in May. Even as he stalked the brown, baked links of the British Open on Sunday, his steely focus never wavered. Until he tapped in his final putt.
That gave him his third claret jug, his 11th major championship, but the first victory he couldn't share with Pops. And that was all too much for him.
"I saw this coming last night," said Steve Williams, the caddie and confidante who stood with him at Earl Woods' gravesite. "He played at the Masters, and it was the only time I saw him try too hard. Today, there was a calmness about him. No doubt he wanted to win this for him."
...He buried his head in Williams' shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably, chest heaving. Tears streamed down both cheeks as he hugged his wife, Elin, for the longest minute....
"I've never done that," Woods said. "But at that moment, it just came pouring out. I was pretty bummed out after not winning the Masters, because I knew that was the last major he was ever going to see. That one hurt a little bit. And to get this one ... it's just unfortunate he wasn't here to see it."
...Woods became the first player since Tom Watson in 1982-83 to win golf's oldest championship in consecutive years....
...It was only the third time Woods has played since his father died May 3 after a brutal bout with cancer. Some questioned whether he could regain his focus after taking nine weeks off, especially after his 76-76 at the U.S. Open to miss the cut for the first time in a major.

Not really. Never played golf in my life, never wanted to. But Tiger does make it a bit more interesting.
I shouldn't fence with you because you'll berate me for using an exclamation point! (oops) My, but you're cunning, klansman.
Don't even bother with Archie Steroids...
He's been ranting about Tiger being on 'roids for two years, on ANY thread Tiger gets mentioned...he's a one note Johnny with no proof what so ever...
He's a tiresome fellow.
I know.
But it's fun to watch him disappear when people finally start asking him for proof.
Stating the obvious.
As they said about Bonds, Mc Guire, Sosa, T.O and Palmero until the truth came out.
If you've been around roid users, you'd know.
BTW....I just looked dweeb up in the dictionary and it had your screen name in the definition.
Keep looking for the swelled bodies, the rage attacks and the acne in other sports and you will find the 'roiders' you are looking for. You won't find them on a precision golfer. But of course what do you know about golf? Nothin'.
HAHA. I have been around many, many professional and amateur athletes that have been roiders. I have seen them before, during and after in mind, body and soul. Tiger Woods is drug free sure as day. Golf is a different sport than any other.
To roid as a top golfer is actually antithetical to the objectives that a top golfer strives for--it is not just a game of driving power (this is a small percentage of the game), much of the the rest is mental, and very high skill level that has to do with fine motor skills, extreme focus and high ability to manipulate emotion, while staying calm. Not to mention course management and the maintenance of one's swing. You can have all the power in the world but if your swing is off, it will be in the water or the woods.
All of these traits would be either not enhanced or even be hindered by roids. This is exactly why I say you do not understand golf. If you did, you would know for Tiger to take roids would be useless and antithetical, while adding nothing to his game. It would only take away.
Until you get what makes great golf you will never get why people are laughing at you when you say Tiger and others are roiding. If there were roiders out there (which is always possibly in the extrememly fearful and frustrated in any sports competition) you aren't going to find them in the top golfers in the world, at least not the ones that are consistently winning.
By the way the course this week that Tiger won on was just the opposite of a power course it was very much skill, experience, talent and a bit of luck course.
It seems to me that Archie spends a too much time studying the male body. :-)
Probably.
Now he's throwing around names like T.O., who hasn't failed a test for roids so far as we know.
He's an ass, probably a racist, and I think he's EXTREMELY jealous.
Are you fantasizing?
Welcome to the discussion Mike from highschool.....how is summer break? I hope you have a great senior year!
Your reply does not make much sense.
The 2006 PGA was also one of my favorite events
