go for the Cooper Mini LOL! That'd be a sight.(Wait a minute, that wasn't a crack about how little he is, was it?)But seriously, the year that Lance had to cut through the hayfield to avoid the crash when Jan -or was it Beloki?-went down, why didn't he get penalized? Why didn't they make him go back & cover the yds he skipped?

This isn't yacht racing, there's no 'string test'. Guess it's kinda like the tag at 2nd base on a steal, or the shortstop's touch of 2nd on a double play - close is good enough!

Why didn't they make him go back & cover the yds he skipped?

Good morning Freddy.

I still don't understand this stage. Out of respect, nobody tries to gain any extra time?

Not on this one, it's traditionally a parade into Paris. There are usually breakaways, but no contender in the GC joins them.

No doubt just saw that the first American rider was in 1981 and we have absolutely dominated since then. France has only won it a few times since it started, but what would you expect.

I see that they're going to cross on the Pont d'Alma, where the Little Statue of Liberty is, am I right? That'd be appropriate today. (Grisly sidenote: Princess Di died in the tunnel here)

Non, la Statue de la Liberté is in front of Pont de Grenelle. A copy of the Statue of Liberty's flam is near Pont de l'Alma.

If you really want a detailed map, use Google Earth's TdF add-on. link

It's amazingly detailed and you can do a virtual TdF following each turn in the course.

Yes. Thanks. I had that bookmarked earlier in the tour but forgot all about it until Republicain posted the link above. It is really fun almost too much fun because I'm missing today's procession while I'm scooting around all the streets I used to hang out on, finding my cafes, grocery stores, etc. Can't believe I never did this before.
