There was a time, back in the mid '80s, when one of the big debates in pop music was who would emerge as the next big superstar, Madonna or Cyndi Lauper?

Like picking a side in the Iran-Iraq war.

I feel sorry for Cubs fans who have to sit at Wriggley Field after having hosted events for the "Gay Games". I think I'd want everyhing steam cleaned before it gets used for baseball. I wonder how many used condoms got left in the stands.

I just wonder who won the Gold Medal for the Leapfrog Event!

I missed it. Was there butt plugging involved and if so, who won the honors? I don't quite imagine I'll live that - image of a gayily dressed Cindi Lauper down.

I thought her best song was "Money Changes Everything", but she didn't write that either.

The song was written by The Brains' frontman, Tom Gray. I believe Rob Hyman (of the Hooters) played keyboards on the song, as did other band members.

She used to have an incredible range. Basically she retired to raise a family. But yeah, she can still sing.

Brash women like Ethel Merman, Bette Midler, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper are adored by as many gay men as straight men. Not being gay, I don't have the slightest idea why.

I do, Gay men want to be brash women.

"It's silly. Everyone thinks they'll never get old until they do, and then they have to ask themselves if they would rather get older, or die. Most choose life, and chuckle to themselves whenever they hear the Who's 'My Generation.'"

I didn't expect to make 30, and here I am at 51+, and I've decided it's OK. Maybe not great, some of the time, but there are moments. I keep hearing the teenagers I work with saying things like "I'm not going to get old!" and I tell them it's better than the alternative. Sometimes it takes them a while to get it, too...

What a terrific insight (i.e., equating Madonna and Her Heinous). Right on the money! They are both dour and sour, self-obsessed and self-important, arrogant and carpet baggers.

She's as ugly now as she was 20 years ago.

I never thought she was ugly. Odd certainly, but not ugly. In her own way, a kinda cute odd.

Except Lauper knew when to leave the party. Madonna keeps staggering around drunk, insulting the hosts and searching out more liquor.
