BTW, I don't think you have to worry about whether they steam clean the seats at Wrigley Field. You know they don't want gum residue on them.

Her actual studio band during her hayday was Philly's own The Hooters (see And We Danced).

Really? Her singing sounds better than the Hooters' lead singers.

"And We Danced" was a nice dance tune, but when it comes to the Hooters, I think of "All You Zombies." What a great song, expertly produced by Rick Chertoff. I don't get the lyrics with the vague Biblical references, but it's killer when listened to on expensive headphones.

She's no looker that's for sure . Who's 50+ and drop dead gorgeous w/o major make-up job ?

No one you would know actually. One is a family friend of mine, born near where I live, but now lives in Australia. She's 54, but as young as she looks, she could easily be mistaken for being in her mid thirties. Another is a lady friend I've been good friends with for about 8 years now. We met on Dalnet IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Both of us were channel moderators at one time. She's 53. But, if I didn't know better, she has the same musical interests that I do. Beauty isn't exactly skin deep.

I don't know Cyndi Lauper personally, but I wouldn't fault her for "having fun" at age 50+. Heck, I'm hoping to listen to still be listening to heavy metal well into my advanced years.

Everyone needs to have fun in life and stop living life so rigidly.

The video is loaded with clues, my favorite of which (and most famous) is the "Self-Service" sign. Another note...the lyrics say "Blueboy" but she's reading "Beefcake" in the video.

From IMDB: Height 5' 3" (1.60 m)

Spouse
David Thornton (24 November 1991 - present) 1 son

Son, with Thornton, Declyan Wallace Thornton Lauper, named after singer, Elvis Costello, whose real name is Declan Patrick MacManus. [19 November 1997]

Honored by PFLAGG for her support of Gay families after appearing with her Lesbian sister in a PFLAGG sponsored campaign. [2005]

Personal quotes

"You always have to remember - no matter what you're told - that God loves all the flowers, even the wild ones that grow on the side of the highway."

"I absolutely refuse to reveal my age. What am I - a car?"

Looking at some of the thread comments it seems her greatest sin isn't singing for gay people, it's letting herself become middle aged.

I like your attitude. Very similar to mine. ;-)

After all, we only get one shot at it here on earth. We may as well make the best of it.

The last concert I went to was April 2005 for J-pop legends Puffy AmiYumi, who are now known in America for the Cartoon Network show loosely based on the two singers, Ami and Yumi. I met them in 2003 at a record show appearance. I'm in my early forties, and thought I would be the oldest guy at the show. Not even close. There were grandparents with their kids and grandkids and we ALL had a blast.

It's silly. Everyone thinks they'll never get old until they do, and then they have to ask themselves if they would rather get older, or die. Most choose life, and chuckle to themselves whenever they hear the Who's "My Generation."

Exactly. Rick Warren in his book Purpose Driven Life defined our time here on earth as like a vacation away from home. :)

Yeah, but the picture's still pretty gnarly. BTW, old Cyndi Lauper joke from the eighties:

What's the difference between Cyndi Lauper and the Panama Canal?

The Panama Canal is a busy ditch.

I think it was actually a retread joke about Sally Struthers.

Somewhere over Massachusetts is a sparrow who apparently doesn't care for '80s rock.

Cyndi Lauper was reaching for a high note during her opening number at Saturday's KISS-108-sponsored concert in Mansfield, Mass., when from the sky came a white glob of bird poop.

The fecal critique landed in her open mouth.

Showing more aplomb than Tippi Hedren ever displayed in "The Birds," the Brooklyn-born rocker wiped her tongue on her sleeve and kept on rockin'.

The 50-year-old singer did kvetch backstage that a bird once plopped on her head while she was on stage.

"My grandmother says it's good luck, but I think it's disgusting," she moaned.

Maybe birds just want to have fun.

Madonna obviously was the one that made it to super-star status, but Cyndi always had more class, better pipes, and a stronger song-sense than Madonna, and that's still true today.

Doubt it?

Then may I recommend a listen to any song, any song at all, from Cyndi's 2003 knock-out album, "At Last". It should make you a believer.

OMG I will never think of Wrigley Field in the same way again!! I can't believe they were allowed to have something like this on this hallowed ground!

Ah yes. Wrigley Field must have been the "very friendly confines" at her concert.
