I have mixed feelings about Gottlieb's being involved in this. It's bad for DPD, but what if his duke report turns out to be favorable to the defense? This could taint it bad.
I certainly agree a bit. But on balance this is more pressure on Nifong.

I would think a report favorable to the defense from Herr Gottleib would still stand, since it would be a statement against his own interest. (I think there is a legal term for that) His interest
is was to bring about a conviction, according to Durham PD Chief Chalmers who said--
"Our responsibility is to investigate the case, to protect the integrity of the case, and when the time comes, provide the evidence that we've gathered in a court of law to bring about a conviction."

Nifong is already in a position where he has to attack the testimony / statements of Officers Shelton and Sutton, now he's going to call into question the Notes of the Lead investigator and Supervisor of all the detectives on the case?
Granted, this is a weird case, but how does Nifong pull that one off?
That would certainly increase the perception of him playing Captain Ahab to the LAX players White Whale.
