I do think we have to consider Joanofark's point that Gottleib may have been set up in this because his report was going to harm Nifong's case badly.
What better way to discredit him to a Durham jury than to make him out to be a racist?
Could be. But his report is going to come out anyway. And I don't think they're that smart to pull such a thing off. I have to beleive (for now) that its a bunch of drunk cops showing their ass. happens a lot...

Guaranteed the poster is a prankster, but is there a relationship between Nifong and DNA Security, Inc.?
Gottlieb could have been set up by the DPD.

I don't see how, in any way, Nifong can stand up there by himself. He needs to introduce evidence. The testimony has to come directly from those involved (Gottlieb and Clayton) or it's hearsay.
The defense has to have an opportunity at cross examination - so, a videotape alone won't cut it.
Nifong is throwing Officers Shelton and Sutton overboard - he has to.
So, now if he throws Gottlieb overboard - he takes a chunk of evidence with him. Gottlieb is also the Supervisor of the entire investigative crew - so you have the ramifications of the culture and honorability of that entire investigative team. Ditto goes for Clayton - you remove him and whatever evidence he would be required to testify to in court.
That leaves Himan whom reports to Gottlieb, and I'm sure socializes with him, and Himan is already partially damaged goods due to his previous actions in this case.
If Nifong could get up there and read the evidence into the record it would be one thing, but he needs these guys to take the stand and personally testify to the evidence.
Gottlieb is (or was) President of the union.
Wonder if that will play into the dynamics.

I am not a big conspiracy guy so I agree it is likely cops showing their asses. But the possibility of this as a way to discredit Gottleib's notes as this situation viewed through the eyes of a racist cop can not be ignored.
As for the case it will be:
1. Himan
2. Mangum
3. Police who searched 610 Buchannan
4. DNA expert
5. Rape trama expert on story changing
So why does Gottleib have to testify in the prosecution case? Himan testifies as to the ID. Mangum testifies to the rape. The officers who searched 610 Buchannan swear to the chain of custody of the nails. DNA testifies Evans not excluded. Rape trama expert says that changing stories is common. I guess Nifong might be dumb enough to call Pittman [aka Roberts], but I can not see why.
What can Gottleib testify to? Her chaning story. Nifong does not want that. Anything else?

Who's the fall guy?

How does a DA, City Manager, Mayor, City Council, et al, get out of a racially-charged, trumped-up rape case?
Discredit the white lead investigators.
What if they and their "pals" got liquored at a sports bar in the next county and some of their "pals" picked a fight with some innocent black dude taking a cigarette break?
What followed may have been predictable if the lead detective was known to have a hot-headed, intimidating, racist? demeanor.
What could happen next?
Due to the discrediting of both lead detectives the case folds.
Be right back. Must run to WalMart and get a biggie roll of Reynold wrap....
