I see the ethnic cleansed version of the N&O story has now been moved from Durham County to Local and State. Where is the link to the original report?

Is there a video tape of the "incident"?

The N&O was started as an organ of the racist NC post-reconstruction Democratic party. From the Wiki entry about the N&O:

[Founder] Josephus Daniels, the principal shaper of The News & Observer Daniels was an unabashed racist and used every resource of his newspaper to remove African American officials from office [1]. In editorials, his paper advocated the use of violence and intimidation to control black voters. A group of men called the "red shirts" appeared at political rallies and meetings, often with weapons to get their message across to black voters. Daniels was quoted as saying "if you have never seen three hundred red-shirted men towards sunset with the sky red and the red shirts seeming to blend with the sky, you cannot conceive the impression it makes." [2]

In 1898, The News & Observer and Daniels ran a racist campaign to reclaim the state legislature from a Republic coalition and helped to bring about the disenfranchisement of black voters. This campaign, organized by Democratic Party state leaders including Daniels and other white supremacists, resulted in the deaths of up to 100 African Americans and the burning of a minority-owned newspaper in the Wilmington race riots [3]. That bloody day resulted in African Americans in office forced to resign at gunpoint and the event remains the only known violent overthrow of a city government in American history. A recent study by the Wilmington Race Riot Commission showed that "the Wilmington Race riot was not a spontaneous event, but was directed by white businessmen and Democratic leaders," [4] one of whom was Josephus Daniels.

According to Pope House Museum Foundation in Raleigh, Daniels used every tool the paper had at its disposal to get his message across. "As many of the whites the Democrats wanted to reach were illiterate, Daniels hired a professional cartoonist, Norman Jennett, who drew vile and false images of supposedly incompetent African Americans politicians who lusted after young white women." [5]

The modern descendants of Daniels spent all their time trying to make up for the sins of the father. When

On May 17, 1995, The News & Observer Publishing Company was sold to McClatchy Newspapers for $373 million, ending 101 years of Daniels family ownership. In the mid 1990s

I remember one of the Daniels family being questioned about possible changes in editorial policy making the remark "they're even more liberal than we are."

And here's your little bit of Sunday morning trivia from the Wiki entry on Josephus:

Daniels is also remembered for having banned alcohol from United States Navy ships in General Order 99 of 1 June 1914. This is reportedly the origin of the naval term "cup of joe" to refer to a cup of coffee.

It appears no one is going to reveal that information. I think the wanted poster is a good idea. Start with COP Chalmers and list all of the known members of the DPD. Then conduct a lineup for the victim with only police department members pictures. See how they like that.

I don't think there was a video tape of the incident. But rumor has it that the officers have time stamped photos, ATM receipts, cell phone records, eyewitnesses, and iron clad spousal endorsed time sheets recording what time they got home. Rumor has it that there will be a line-up conducted and they will only use Durham police photos. Also, according to 100% reliable unconfirmed rumors, all of the officers have contacted the attorneys for the Duke players to ask for representation.

I sure did notice that. They exchanged words in the later story. No mention that those words were racial slurs. That went down the memory hole. And you're right. No mention that the cook was black.

Seems like the N&O is back to its hide-the-ball and misleading reporting.

We, and Rockwell, keep arguing facts, evidence and legal procedure. As I have said previously, all Nifong has to do is to get Crystal and Kim on the stand to say "They called us n*gg*rs" and that will be enough for a Durham jury to ignore all facts and evidence and convict.

No videotape? How do they know if the police was involved, then?

What, no video tape. I thought the police had cameras in all their cars. Oh yeah, I forgot about he automatic shutoff when the beatings start. That Rodney King thing.

Exactly. The police cars have cameras. So, where is that videotape?

I don't think we can expect to have the N&O (Snooze and Disturber) dig up any information regarding how out of control the DPD is. Will Ruth write a scathing column convicting the officers before any evidence is presented? Probably not.

I am sure we will here a lot of "they are innocent until proven guilty" if any charges come from this assault.

They were probably in private vehicles. Doubt that any DPD cars were actually there. But you never know. Some departments allow officers to drive vehicles off duty. Don't think it would be appropriate to drive them to out of town bars.

But it's somehow known that DPD was involved?
How would it be known if they were in private cars?

One of the reports indicated that the two white Durham officers were in either a Jeep or Truck and yelled racial slurs at the black cook. Being as they were in the City of Raleigh, they would not have been in their DPD vehicles.

Aw c'mon. The poor things are just trying to relieve the stress of the Duke investigation. Maybe they should have just hired a stripper.
