There's the problem right there. Leadership is risking a decision when you don't yet have all the data and being willing to occasionally make a wrong decision and take responsibilty for it.
If you never take action and stand on the sidelines with your arms folded then no one can ever blame you. And that's his goal, avoiding having any blame placed on him no matter what injustice is committed.
The battle cry of the modern liberal is "We did nothing - our hands are clean!"
It's really distressing to think the FODU bunch - full of lawyers and doctors and whatever all else - aren't smart and tough enough to see what they're up against. This ain't beanbags. The local Durham power structure is as mean and corrupt as any mafia outfit and have to be dealt with accordingly. Courts and laws and procedures mean nothing to them. And we all see how petrified the local media is of the CourtHouse Crowd...

What a waste the Brodhead response is. He and Melanie Sill two birds of a feather. Smear and then when you turn out be wrong, try to ignor the wrong you assisted.
This is unbelievable. C. Destine, Gottlieb and Clayton and now "Jakki". I can't even begin to imagine what else there is to unearth in this case.
Broadhead talks but he says a whole lot of nothing. I don't see any concern for the players or their families in his response. Or concern for the legal process and the way the case is being handled.
Brodhead may be concerned about a lawsuit. (He should be.)
But that is peanuts compared to the harm he has caused.
He has been an active instigator in Tawana Brawley II.
The only decent thing to do, now that he must know the
students are innocent, is to try to do everything in his power to see that they are vindicated.
Of course, when did anyone in academia ever place considerations like decency first?

It is the DA'a job to prove them guilty. He can't do that because they are not guilty.
Unfortunately, the boys' attorneys are having to show that they ARE innocent.

Actually Duke should be concerned about a lawsuit.
Someone at Duke reportedly convinced the players to answer the questions of the Police and to not tell anyone - including their parents. Some 18, 19, and 20 years olds were given advice that most likely changed the course of their lives.
You can bet that Nifong and company will twist whatever they did say - and omit other things they said. There's a reason that Lawyers advice innocent people not to answers questions without their lawyer being present. Especially, if the authorities have already determined the person being interrogated is a gulity party.

It is helps for Duke in future law suits that Brodhead is not about to admit mistakes. But he is doing it in an attempt to save his job.
The continued harping about the misbehavior of the lacrosse team smacks of crticizing someone who has lost a child in an auto accident for now dressing them warmly enough that morning.
