DURHAM, N.C. -- Officials say they are investigating an alleged assault involving Durham police officers outside a Raleigh bar.

Yep, the N & O cleansed their second report of any mention of race or racial slurs.
I notice the AV has been upgraded to "escort service dancer."

Homogenized version:

Some have speculated the investigator present - but not mentioned by Police may have been Linwood Wilson.
Could Gottleib have been present? See this post--

Please save that first version, I fear it won't be around long.
There's a white-washing or cleansing if I ever saw it!
I have no doubt the cleansed version will be in the Print edition and the old version will go to the bit-bucket like it never existed.
He could have been. It could have been Gottlieb. I know there was a discrepancy in the number of people serving the warrant according to Police versus the Cab-driver. Everyone is going to believe the Cab-driver over these clowns.
In fact, I saw it discussed on another site and the speculation was that it could have been Linwood Wilson, but it could have been Gottlieb.
Additionally, Nifong, predictably, said that he would be surprised if the Police serving the warrant asked the Cab-driver anything about the Duke Case. Yeah right, Mike.
That is the most corrupt organization over there. I think they would do whatever it takes at this point.
Report of race and racial slurs from first report, missing in updated report ...

Durham officers investigated for possible assault
EXCERPT
Also on Friday, Investigator Richard Clayton was placed on administrative duty with pay, Michael said. Clayton has assisted in the Duke investigation and works under Gottlieb.
Michael could not comment on the reason for the change in Gottliebs and Claytons status, or whether it was related to the assault complaint Blincos employee Rene Dennis Thomas, 29, made to Raleigh police.
Thomas, a line cook at the restaurant, said Saturday he was smoking a cigarette behind the building about 11:30 p.m. when he saw a black Nissan truck speed out of the parking lot, tires squealing.
Thomas said he shouted mockingly at the drivers raucous display. A passenger in the truck, whom he described as white, yelled a racial slur at him, Thomas said. Thomas, who is black, returned with a different racial epithet.
The truck stopped and Thomas walked to it, exchanging words with the passenger, he said. He then found himself surrounded by at least three more cars, he said.
Thomas said several men got out of the vehicles, and one charged at him. Thomas said he dropped to the ground to protect himself. He said someone hit him and a shoe grazed his face. Thomas was left with minor cuts and bruises, he said.
Thomas told a manager about the incident, who called Raleigh police at 11:58 p.m., according to a police report.
The manager and several employees told Raleigh officers that the men were regular customers whom they believed were Durham police officers, Thomas said.
Melanie performing her version of ethnic cleansing?
They edited this out too:
"He then found himself surrounded by at least three more cars, he said."
Why would they omit a quote from the individual reporting the attack? Because they are trying to downplay the whole thing and minimize the incident. If you notice, more writers are involved in the updated piece - yet, it only has information removed - nothing added. So what did those additional contributors and writers do - excise damaging information.
Did they say Finnerty had "an angry verbal exchange" with the guys in Georgetown?
These guys have a much greater responsibility to the community than a 19 year old college kid.
The N&O doesn't mention anything about alcohol being involved, when that is a natural question in an assault late at night at a BAR. Reports are the police were driving out of control too, before the attack; however, again, the N&O doesn't probe or even raise the question of Driving under the influence or Drunk Driving.
How about, It is unknown whether alcohol was involved; however, witnesses stated that the driver of the vehicle was
driving aggressively in a small parking lot.
How about showing the guys pictures to people in the Bar (like the Bartender) and asking if this guy was drinking as what was he drinking.
It could read: the bartender stated that Gottlieb was drinking shots of liquor for about two hours before the Cook says he was assaulted and intimidated by multiple men in what could be considered a hate crime.
The N&O doesn't wonder about the culture of the Durham PD or if contributed. The don't ponder in print the possibility that the men felt like they were untouchable or privileged. They don't posit whether it could have been done to humiliate the man in public.
The N&O doesn't raise any concerns about a Police force investigating its own either. Must be all that integrity in Durham.
I strongly suspect all the Police officers were white - especially with that racial slur used. So, 5 white officers surrounded and kicked the black cook who cowered at the use of force in the apparent racial intimidation - how'd that be?
The N&O sucks so bad it's not even funny!
The Associated Press refers to the EARLIER N&O piece that mentioned the race of the victim and suspects - and mentioned the racial slurs - HOWEVER, the AP did NOT include the Race of either the alleged victim or suspects and mentions NO racial slurs.

There's your media for you.
Just like the Fresno Football team. They are totally agenda driven.
Joe Cheshire practices out of Raleigh. It is quite possible he is better acquainted with the Wake County DA than Nifong is. I believe though the DA there will let the police do their investigation before he jumps in the middle of this unlike someone else we know.
I wonder if any old noise charges or peeing in public charges will be resurrected against these officers.

Not too impressed with N&O coverage about Gottleib.
Not until towelhead is mentioned.
LOL - do the officers have time-stamped photos?
The President and Publisher of the N-0 is African American and probably has final say over Melanie.
"The President and Publisher of the N-0 is African American and probably has final say over Melanie."
So is he in favor of biased justice--justice for "friends",
and injustice for "enemies"?
Surely he must KNOW by now that this case is a hoax.
What's his excuse for not making a journalistic crusade
to free the wrongly accused? (You know he'd do this if
their color was slightly darker.)
Is he afraid of loosing circulation? Does that mean the thinks the AA community is also in favor of biased justice?
Isn't that racism of a kind, also--the racism of lowered expectations?
Anybody want to write a letter to him to that effect?
Does he know Finnesse? Probably since she is President of the Durham Bar Association.
Poor Melanie, between a rock (not to be confused with THE ROCK, hero to crotch boy) and a hard place.
Gotta love it.
I wanna know about the people in the 3 other cars. Were they all cops? Were they placed on leave?
