I think PMS is great but I really would like one that alludes to traitorous behavior or crass Machiavellian tactics. After all that is what they are.

In a way, this sort of thing has pretty deep roots. So do crass Machiavellian tactics of course.
Julius Caesar did the same thing, as did most noble Romans. It was part of the "cursus honorum", which ambitious noblemen took.
Old Julius found that he had a talent for it, unlike a lot of others.
The US is in a lot of ways quite Roman in its institutions.

"We need an acronym for someone who joins the military just for the political points." I personally think we need to be more specific and identify these folks as as those who later badmouth the military. There are plenty of true republicans/conservatives who have military records (albeit most of them joined because of their values, and not for political advantage.). As a platoon leader and company commander, I would always tell my new soldiers that I was aware people joined the Army for many different reasons, adventure, education, parents made them, nothing else to do, etc. I advised them that I didn't care why they joined, I only cared that they did their job while they were there. To be intellectually honest and personally consistent, I can't badmouth someone for joining just for political advantage, provided they did their jobs while they were there.

Add Gore to that list. He was going to flee to Canada when Al Gore Sr. talked him out of it.
Daddy Gore groomed his son for the White House.
