I did a search for peanut allergies and found your thread. Last night we had to take our 15 month old son to the ER because of a severe reaction to peanut butter. We had no idea about his allergy until then. He is OK now, but we are sad for his future. Do you have any good advice based on the few months that have passed since your post?

First thing is to get your son tested for more allergies specifically fish, shellfish, and tree nuts are really bad allergies. Also get tested for soy, gluten, eggs, and other common allergies.
My daughter ended up being allergic to peanuts and eggs, while the peanuts are more dangerous the eggs are harder to handle. The hardest part for me was looking at my daughter like she was not handed a death sentence.
Some kids, very few, out grow a peanut allergy. Usually they present the allergy very young, do not have a life threatening reaction, and do not have too many food allergies. For the kids the don't get over the allergy they are working on a safe shot that would not allow your kid to eat peanuts but would insulate him from a reaction to small amounts of peanuts (somewhere between 1-9 peanuts..
