Update: Monarch has contacted us and we will be updating this information with another post in a bit. Monarch explains they will have a lot of inventory on AM2 and 939 AMD processors for next week.
The rumors of the AMD price cuts have been batted around everywhere and we have verified that they are coming, but Monarch Computer is the first retailer we have seen put the prices in writing on this page. Keep in mind these prices reflect Combo Deal purchasing that will be shipped next week, and is not yet available on single AMD processor purchases. Undoubtedly the dual core 3800+ AM2 is one of the ones to keep your eye on at $149. Not shown in the picture below is a single 3800+ AM2 OEM processor for $109.00! You can contrast these prices with Intels new Core 2 Duo and Extreme pricing shown on this page.
Damn....I paid 350 for both of my X2 3800+ , course it's been almost a year ago now...over 18 months for the first one....
this mobo seems to run great at 250MHZ... 10X250 = 2.5GHZ 4xHTT
yea as we speak the X2 3800's are going for $297 ... in a couple days they will be $160-170
I'm pretty content to just get them running....I've been trying all of the different Linux flavors....amazing variety of stuff.....lot's of neat stuff....
IM WAITING FOR MEPIS 6 FINAL IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED TODAY!!! GRRRRRRRRR :)
Yes, the kernel has to support it and have the right setup....or be able to detect and adjust.....Ubuntu, Fedora core 5 and Suse 10 and Frugulware (slackware derivitive do....I've tried those....
I am not competent to do my own Kernels....
When Mepis 6 comes out should be sometime tomorrow... gibe it a shot.. you should like it. :) its Debian/Ubuntu... :D
You really should look at the latest from Novell, the Enterprise Desktop...I am running the 64 bit varient....with the special effects....love it....
What does Mempis do that is nice?
Mepis 6 is one of the easiest distros i've ever tried... really easy and uses the same synaptic update utility like Ubuntu.. some of the same repos also..
Well... its easy.. stream audio/radio over firefox by just download a few packages from synaptic, watch dvd's by just downlaoding a couple packages from synaptic... etc... simple.
It has a great hardware detection, very good for laptops with WiFi too.

HP Has Got Novell's Back
IBM is going to support the offering also....
1. Mepis
2. PCLinuxOS
3. Ubuntu/Kubuntu
I didn't care that much for any of the SUSE 's prior to this SuSE 10 Enterprise Desktop Edition....it is a real improvement in a lot of ways....I dumped Fedora Core 5 for it....
$50 for a year huh? hmmm :\
I also have a paid copy of Zandros 3.0 deluxe......which is a really easy one....there is a down;load free copy of that also....it is Debian based....but is very well put together....
Vector Linux is really good and FAST....beats about anything else I have tried....
