But he is doing all these things at his age, without a stick or a guide dog. I don't think its just that he has exceptional hearing.
I think his limits are only going to be right now what's society is placing on him and more critically, safety considerations.
Yes, perhaps so. But his hearing is clearly the enabling ability. Others may never be so good at interpreting the returns (or maybe they will), but it is probably possible to use technology to give them Ben's hearing.
I'm thinking that this is a workable idea.... The return could be based on a scanner (perhaps directionally triggered by eye motions) and a return like a "hum" from a poorly grounded speaker....
