Every member of Duke University's men's lacrosse team is a potential witness in the case against three players charged with rape, Durham's lead prosecutor said Monday while arguing for access to their student ID card records. "We want to be able to confirm what they tell us about where they went afterward," District Attorney Mike Nifong said of the uncharged players.

Titus also formally reaffirmed the state's rules governing trial publicity and disclosure of information to the public and the media. The order does not prevent attorneys in the case from talking publicly, but does prohibit statements that have a "substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing" the case. "The rules of professional responsibility require us to be very careful of what we say," said Wade Smith, one of Finnerty's attorneys. "We'll do that. We've been doing that. And we'll continue to do that."

Titus operated like a politician: Mouth and brain are disconnected.
There are no rules in Durham.
"I wonder what the CourtTV idiots that thought there was a gag order think now."
It looks like CTV has deleted the entire Duke discussion. There's no sign of it. I guess CW has decided to abide by the phantom gag order. What an idiot!
Delbarton headmaster has come out publicly supporting Reade, Chaminade principal has testified for Collin in DC, and the deafening silence continues from Duke.
Okay long time Durhamites(?) Now is the time to put your brains to work.
I have long heard the story about a now deceased man who served as Sheriff and County Commissioner who employeed the head of the local Hell's Angels (who happened to be busted for owning massage parlors).
Of course all the pols denied involvement in protstitution.
BTW present mayor was a political ally of this now deceased man. (This was in the 80's)
Does anyone have any memories of this and perhaps could confirm or deny? God knows local media will not touch it.
As each day passes the worse this looks to me. If Cheek doesn't say he will run there is no pressure on Nifong to do the right thing. This whole thing is going to be dragged on unnecessarily till next spring if nothing is done. It might be time for the Duke players legal team to open up a new legal front on all this and try and open up a civil lawsuit. This thing might go away if people started to have to go in for depositions.
My vote is both. Also his beating cancer and destroying people in traffic court for years has made his ego swell.

The poor sods over at Friends of Duke University Blog sent in this happytalk open letter to the Duke Chronicle. See here.

Well, you see what good it got them. When are people going to learn the DriveBy Media IS NOT our friend on this thing? They have to be shown. The only friends we have are ourselves, Sean Hannity, half a dozen columnits and a few bloggers. The media helped gin up the lynch mob in the first place. They WILL NOT admit they were mistaken unless it is PROVEN to them.
This IS, and ALWAYS HAS BEEN, a trial by media. It IS NOT a legal proceeding...
If your recall the sobbing of the woman in South Carolina a few years back that drowned her two boys and blamed it on a carjacker, Kimmy's sobbing sounded just like that. When I first heard this tape that is exactly what I thought of.

Yes indeed.
This thing won't stop because the wussified media smells blood where it cuts them the most. They hate the lacrosse players for the same reason they hate Bush: "privileged" white athletes who are probably conservative... what do you think the types who become mainstream journalists are going to do? Of COURSE it's become a national story...it's part of the Oprahfication of America, in this case the product of a corrupt local politician working in tandem with the collective personal derangements of the media classes. The piece of dirt Paula Zahn together with the unmanned Cole on Fox? This is a dream story for them, they get to air out their teenage grievances in a national forum.
This is one more tendril of the homosexual agenda. It's funny how Tom Wolfe predicted almost every essential element of this story in Simmons.
Um... except for the fact that on March 13/14 there was no sex never mind a rape.
I don't know what there was or wasn't, my comment had to do with why this is a national case in the first place. That should be the first question...why the hell do people care about an obscure stripper rape case? Tom Wolfe predicted correctly the psychology behind this: the journalist-media type in Charlotte Simmons publishes a muckraking article on the lacrosse player type out of weird personal grievances. This is playing out in the national media because the people on CNN, Fox, etc., have voyeuristic teenage fantasies about getting back at jocks and so on, especially when these might be Republicans. This is what I was saying...I'm on the side of the players.
