There is a picture on the home page of foxnews that shows staged artillary shells. Can anyone tell me what types of 155 shells they are by their Color code. I know the OD are HE, but what are the Orange and the pale green? Any help?

You get the most bang for the buck it you have 18 rounds hitting the target at the same time, a whole battalion, instead of 1 gun shotting 18 rounds at that target.
At 2 rds a minute and 1 rd per minute afterwards your talking 17 minutes for one target.
Trust me, anything alive after the first salvo is moving out of the area fast.

The 155mm shell is a 6.1 inch shell. The dark green is a he [high explosive] with different types of fuses on them. [They look like some vt [variable time] fuses] the light green shells are a wp [white phosprous] shell [usally used for marking targets for aircraft attacks] and when in doubt burn them out with willie pete! the orange shells maybe a rap round, it is a lighter weight shell with longer range. In case you reall have to reach out and touch someone! ;)

I like that. If we seeded some pork in an air burst, I wonder if the bad guys would just run away. They would if they were faithful Muzzies. But then again the battlefield denial would work against the Israelis too.

Thank you for your service. I had the high honor of serving with some or your predecessors in VN in my first tour. I was in the Army but sent up north for a few months to learn from the best. Best months of duty I had in my 2 yrs-3mos-18 days of Service in Vietnam. Thanks for the info on the ordinance. Enjoy the life you fought for.

The yellow is HE.
The light green is either WP or Smoke. They have a new (since mid 80's) smoke round that doesn't burn sh*t like WP, but gives good effects for shield movement or blinding low tech optics.
Like I said before, the light colored fuses are PD, the black ones are Mechanical Time, or Variable Time. The longer shells are rap, Rocket Assisted Projectile.
LOL, let us now say a prayer to Saint Barbara, the paitron Saint of the Field Artillery!

Color probably designates the desired level of media coverage down range:
- Green is for CNN/AP/Rueters
- Yellow is for Al Jazeera/BBC
- pink is for the U.N.

I just saw onthe Foxnews websight a good close up of the M109A? in a firing configuration. there you would see a close up of the shells that they are firing. the DARK green shells are HE! The LIGHT green ones are WILLIE PETE! And the ORANGE ones are the RAP rounds. they do have various fuses on the he shell too. some are the PD & others are the VT type. These are older rounds though. Have anybody seen what the IDF has done to 175mm "gun" tubes that we sold them in the mid 80's? They [the IDF] put 8in howitzer bands on them had shoot them as anti-tank rounds. Just in case the rag heads decide to try to field any armor aginst them.
