Hold a registration and, then, a lottery to determine which of the illegal aliens get to stay.

My sister suggested a lottery for illegal aliens. Here are some ideas, that came out of her discussion with me.

1. All illegals must register in order to enter the immigration lottery.
2. The lottery winners, a designated % of illegal aliens or a designated number of illegal aliens, get to stay in the US.
3. If the winning heads of households are married, their spouses, direct ancestors (parents, grandparents) and direct descendents (children, grandchildren) are included among the winners (siblings of married people are not included, since they must enter the lottery themselves.)
4. All non-winning lottery entrants, get a flat amount of cash to take home with them.
5. Lottery winners may opt to take the cash, instead of remaining in the country. In those cases another name is drawn to replace them.
6. Illegals who do not register for the lottery get no money when they are sent to their home country.

TOPICS: Society
KEYWORDS: aliens; immigration; immigrationlottery; lottery
Here are some additional ideas.

In situations where the head of the household is a felon, he or she can be replaced in the lottery by a spouse. The felon must leave the country.

Winning entrants who are determined to be felons get deported, and another name is drawn

I like my amnesty plan!
Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

My sister's plan might be a good compromise.

Only if the odds of winning are 1 in 50 million.

Compromisers are sorrier than the far left wing.

"In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit."

"The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum. Whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no compromise on basic principles."

Make the lottery winners jump through all the hoops (fines, learn English, stay out of trouble, etc.)

The lazier lottery winners will opt for the cash, and leave the country, instead of staying and working hard toward citizenship.

The felons will be expelled.

Funny you should say that.

My sister is a liberal.(Member of ACLU, Amnesty international, etc.) I was surprised she wanted to throw the book at the illegals more than I did.

This was, partly, her attempt to compromise with my sorrow for the young people born here (American citizens?) who will have to leave the only country they have known.

A compromise which discriminates among illegals according to the length of time they have been here, will result in a huge mess.

Administrators would be snowed under by false statements and false documents. Bribery would be rewarded, and rampant.

A depersonalized "lottery," on the other hand, will eliminate that mess of documentation and will be more orderly. When the "heads of household" register for the lottery, they will be obligated to declare the names and ages of the members of their family. Winners of the lottery will not be allowed to keep children of the losing families in the US with them.

Entering a lottery will make the illegals undergo the same uncertainty that some legal immigrants have had to undergo.

Do you wish to reward illegal activity? Yes or no.

If you do not, then all those who engage in illegal activity are cut off from reward. If you do, then your words are dust, your indulgence will be taken advantage of, and your integrity forever suspect.

There are more than adequate channels and avenues for legal immigration. If you have talents and education that this country needs, the doors are wide open. If on a good day, you waver between unemployment and welfare, the doors ought to closed.

Good question. Do I wish to punish children? No.

Which children?

The children of all the legal residents of the country or the children of the illegals? If you are going to use children's welfare as the excuse (not reason, excuse) for treating the illegals as above the law, then every single lawbreaker in this country becomes exempt from legal consequences because we shouldn't punish the children for the sins of the parents.

Right?

Are the children of illegal aliens citizens, or not?

Not automatically.

It has become the norm, but it is not on the books that they automatically become citizens.

Shame on the spineless that this has become SOP.
