"Yes, and you and a handful of others know exactly what's right for America. Screw the polls, we really don't care what Americans think about it (unless they agree with us). /S"

Me and the vast majority of Republican voters who have let their congressmen know that they are adamantly against ANY amnesty for illegals Mexicans invaders.
That's why more and more states, cities, counties are passing tough anti-illegal immigrant laws.
They are not passing those laws because their constituents are screaming for more illegals to be allowed into their cities/counties/states to come screw things up.
They are passing those laws because of a groundswell of anger from fed-up voters. There is even a post here about a RATS controlled state congress that was forced to vote in anti-illegal immigrant laws
That the American people speaking right there.
Toy see, unlike you, they have to answer to the people, at the real polls in November, and they are not deaf.

Bottom line: Funding was stopped for a wall by The Senate. And your crack "Did the 1986 bill have strong border security?" will bring the same answer, the Senate is not including a strong border security this time either. It's 1986 redux.

That's the purpose of a conference. So if that's the case then, why even bother with a House bill?

Hearings first, then deep studying of all the traps for American taxpayers in the Senate Bill, then conference if we feel the Senate people are ready to dump their obnoxious Bill for the House version. If the Senate won't listen to reason, there will be no bill.

Afraid that's not what negotiating means. It means having your no discussion items, and doing some horse trading. In the end, both sides win something. Some here don't really want the Republicans to win, they want the Democrats to loose.

Republicans will win by listening to their constituents that voted to put them in power, and killing the Senate Bill.
As for the RATS, heaven knows what they stand for, apart from they hate Bush, and voted to stop The House censure of the The Slimes leaking national security secrets.
The RATS are set to lose again. Any momentum they had a few months back is gone.

There's basically little in the in the Senate Bill worth salvaging.
Even their "wall" has strings attached, and it was added as an afterthought.
The Senate should simply do the right thing and let their version of the Immigration Bill die.
