BRISTOL, Conn. - Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said Wednesday night that he was told he was "seconds, maybe a minute away from dying" immediately after his motorcycle accident last month.
Roethlisberger, in his first interview since the June 12 accident, told ESPN's "SportsCenter" that he doesn't remember much about the accident when he rammed his motorcycle into a car that was making a left turn in front of him on a Pittsburgh street. He did, however, remember what he was told by people at the scene.
"They told me that I was literally seconds, maybe a minute away from dying because I slit a vein or artery in my mouth or my throat and it was draining blood right into my stomach and luckily the paramedic noticed it and stopped it or else I would have had too much blood in my stomach," he said in Los Angeles where he was for the taping of the ESPY Awards.

Is he going to be able to play again?
I never understood why people are against helmets. My take is a bit different...I don't care about the rider...if he wants to risk dying everytime he rides, that his perogative. HOWEVER, if I'm driving the car that hits that rider, whether I'm the one at fault or not, I don't want his death on my conscience.
LOL,
"and rfuse to allow either of my sons to ride."
You and about 80 percent of other parents!
So actually the law is - HELMETS are NOT required for those over 21 with two or more years of experience. Is that what you are saying? The law is modified for those over 21 with experience.
You can have your helmut, prettyboy.
< |:)~
No one is "against" helmets. In the case of motorcycles, a helmet's efficacy is very questionable over 14mph. The "heads, heads, heads" focus crowd never mention "necks, necks, necks".
They tend to think that if you screw a helmet on that dumb rider's head, you just saved him.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. Helmets kill and helmets cripple, in astounding numbers.
Oh, they are beneficial, and they do work. And if the ONLY part of your body that you are worried about is your head, then they are the be-all, end-all.
But for those of us who worry about the "whole" body, we tend to measure risks in terms of outcome.
Would you rather take a shot to the head and die, or take a shot to the neck and live the rest of your life a quad in wheelchair? (Your head would still be in tact though!!)
On another issue, the nanny staters think that screwing a lid on riders somehow makes everything all better.
Helmets don't prevent accidents.
If they were really interested in motorcycle rider safety, they would teach car drivers to NOT HIT US! (what a novel concept!)
I won't bend your eyes anymore. I know some safetycrats in the crowd will now take the time to tell me how stupid I am and flame the bejeezus out of me.
Nice try at spin.
Helmets are OPTIONAL if you have the required experience.
Thanks!

So thrilled to see him looking so great after such a short time!
Optional is the same as not required if you have the requisite expereince. Please point out my spin.
rammed his motorcycle into a car
He did not come out of "nowhere". That's foolish and uninformed. The woman is about 60 and lives in Squirrel Hill (Jewish community here) in Pittsburgh. She spends some time in another state.
Facts are important. Try more of them. You're usually much wiser.
By the way, sorry I was so "nasty" in my last post. I have a terrible back problem, working in my nursery about 16 hours a day. It was just a bad moment.
Please be well.
:-)
Sorry about your back...that's the worst pain. I know!
Because it is a Jewish community -- an excellent community........ lots of Asians and others in many of the university communities. I lived there for a long period of time.
Cool it!
Ok. :)
Closeness also counts in vasectomies, wouldn't you agree????
