Reflections before the Firefight
Dusk slides into darkness
and I strain to watch the shadows
watching ever for one that moves
one that shouldnt
Its become too ordinary
living in that silence before battle
and than coming alive
and dodging mortality
Fear with my powered eggs
pain with my grounds filled coffee
and stress, just another dressing
on the table of war
I remember my car
and the girls that were so fetching
sitting inside there so sweet to see
as I slid my hand down their legs
Now I test infallibility
as on each day I strive
afraid of deaths hollow rattle
wondering if Ill live to ever marry
What guy wouldnt
wanna be with his high school sweetheart
wondering if you really reap what you sow
as I await combats grimness
Have you seen it?
Have you heard it?
This will be the worst mess
Worse than the beginning of the end
Worse than life or death
It's messed up but we think it's alright
We can't stand
We can't walk
All we do is sit and talk
It's over but we cant except it
We just defend it
Past present future
Life has become a detour
Until heaven or hell comes
Then we leave our homes
But it's just a dream, so it seems
