A couple of months ago, Kris Birch decided it was time to buy himself some jeans.
Instead of heading to the men's section at Fashion Square Mall's Pac Sun, which he manages, the 20-year-old Essexville resident bought a pair of women's jeans.
And he felt no shame.
"It wasn't a big deal at all," Birch said. "You were seeing it around a lot already by then."
A fashion trend is directing young men -- early teens to early 20s -- toward the opposite side of the store, where they're buying girls' and women's pants.
Birch said he bought his pants to accommodate his bike-riding lifestyle. Women's jeans typically make for a tighter fit around the legs.
"It's not so baggy, so it
doesn't get caught in the chain," Birch said. "It makes it easier to flow. I have a lot of them now."
The fashion move started to gain momentum about six months ago, said Troy Darling, a 24-year-old store manager at Hollister in Fashion Square.
"It's a new punk rock sort of thing," said Darling, who lives in Saginaw. "We definitely see it a lot now."

Aren't men's jeans cut for a little more room in the crotch??...maybe the reason he feels comfortable in ladies things is doesn't need the room..
I seem to recall straight legged jeans won't those work???
I buy my jeans at the tractor supply store. I can go in there, read the tag and be reasonably sure they're going to fit. If I try that in Meijers, Sears, etc, I'm likely to find that "my size" may not be. They sell for the kids and I don't like wearing my pants down around my knees.
ROTFLMAO!
I ended up with a pair of my wife's jeans, they were baggy on her but fit me just right. Big deal.
Hopefully this means that the trend to let their boxers hang out while their jeans are down to their knees is drawing to a close. Oh how I've hated that fashion trend.
Back in 1997, the week before I met Xena's Guy, I bought a pair of size 6 Levis. They were my first size-sixes in YEARS. I had only tried them on in the store - hadn't even worn them out in public yet.
A few weeks later, I'm dating this new guy, and he was over at my place over the weekend in shorts. We decided to go somewhere, and he asked if he could borrow some pants instead of schlepping across town and back for his.
He put on my brand-new Levis, and the damn things looked better on him than they did on me.
future democrats
I think Levi's would pass, but if I see a man wearing a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, it's gonna raise an eyebrow or two.
If they fit, there's a good chance you're not a man.
Sure you can recall them, now try to find them outside of Fleet Farm...
And he probably bragged about how he got into your pants.
They will further the trend by having a thong exposed out the back?
ROFL!!!
I've lost countless shirts over the years to wives, girlfriends and female acquintences who wanted a 2XLT robe to wear on Saturday mornings.
Don't know what the big deal is. I've bought men's jeans for years. Women's jeans aren't cut right for my body frame. Besides I wear jeans for comfort not fashion.
Jeans are $10 to $20 cheaper in the farm supply stores as well.
