Maybe, maybe not. Define 'hurt'. You assume they're wealthy and that must mean it's just nothing to them. I don't assume that. The vet bills for this horse probably have already passed $50,000. Even most wealthy people acknowledge that to be a lot of money and ~some~ wouldn't spend it.

As it just so happens, the Jacksons had been very large donors to the New Bolton Center through the years. A good investment now, in their peace of mind more than anything else.

My husband raises rodeo bulls and just suffered this kind of a loss. While everyone here was cheering the success of the horses treatment I was, and still am, expecting the worst. Our bull Copperhead Driller, spent 2-3 months in a cast at the vets, before dying of infection, in spite of everything possible being done for him. And yes, I expect the owners of the horse can pay the vet bill out of their insurance money.
