WELLINGTON (Reuters) - New Zealand has reacted with indifference to Jerry Collins's unplanned call of nature before the Tri-Nations match against Australia Saturday.
The loose forward was caught on camera on bended knee, discreetly relieving himself on the pitch moments before kickoff.
Assistant New Zealand coach Steve Hansen described the incident as unfortunate.
"If you're a male and you're about to play a test match and you're seconds away from kickoff and you get the urge to want to go to the toilet -- what do you do?" Hansen said.
"Do you rush off and let the game start with 14 men or do you try to be as discreet as you can be and hope that cameramen use common sense and don't go showing it to everyone on the screen."
The New Zealand public also seemed unconcerned about the incident, with almost two-thirds of respondents to an Internet poll on the Fairfax media group's website (www.stuff.co.nz) saying it did not bother them at all.
Hansen said he would be offering Collins simple advice.
"'See if you can get your ablutions done before you get out on the track'," he said.

Poor excuse, for bad behavior.
What would this Hansen say is it were a female, about to play a rugby/soccer/basketball match then?
Hitch up her skirts and let it rip so TV cameras can capture it all?
Earth to Hansen, we are not still in the Neanderthal age.

I seldom play Golf Courses that do not have plenty of bushes. Diuretics give way to urgency.

This isn't the Rugby World Cup, it's the Tri-nations tourney between Australia, New Zealand and S Africa. England won the last World Cup tournament back in 2003.
Your headline is incorrect and not the same as the headline of the article in question.

my only complaint would be accidentally dragging it across a thorny weed or another player accidentally stepping on it
I hate it when that happens....especially in those cleets

Thanks for the correction.
Admin, would you please remove the words "World Cup" from the title.

Half ot the Mexican dudes on my HS soccer team would routinely pull this maneuver in the team huddle at midfield before the game.
I'm glad I was the goalkeeper and didn't have to risk a slide tackle through a puddle of urine during the game. 8^)

LOL. My chief concern isn't so much someone accidentally stepping on it, I would feel awful if someone got hurt by tripping over it. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised at much I see during a rugby match. I took some of my nephews friends to watch our local team play a team from Wales.
More than once it was necessary to avert my eyes.

When I once visited Mexico, it was common to see males urinating wherever it was convenient, sometimes right in the gutter. When you have no toilets...

A better title would be "Rugby fans Unconcerned...."

Good point.
The correct title, which I managed to mangle- I must have World Cup on the brain- is "Fans unconcerned by player's call of nature".

I remember seeing a picture a few years ago of a soccer player doing the same thing right on the sidelines.
