Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 351 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 85th place (with 908 active CPUs - 47,400 completed Work Units and nearly 8.5 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 19 folding threads)
That's easy. First you get a big hammer...
I'm currently at 55, but by tomorrow evening or Sunday morning I should hit 50!
It's a lot of fun checking our production page every morning these last 2-3 weeks!
I finally did it--I went over 10,000 pts. yesterday, and with only two processors. Yahoo!! Now one is folding away on a 600 pt. WU, and neither of them is stuck with a Tinker! Yay!
Please excuse me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard...
Hopefully I'll play the dual core game by the end of the year. Too many other things going on right now to upgrade...or should I say to try to convince the wife that we should upgrade. I did just start picking up a couple of pieces on sale though. The biggest drawback for me is that in addition to the MOBO and CPU, I'll have to spring for new RAM and a new vid card. I mean, with AM2 out, may as well go with DDR2, and I have yet to see an AM2 board with an AGP slot (and only a handful of 939's have them).
The reason it kills me is I have 3x512MB of PC3200 laying around, and my existing video cards are all AGP based. Those 2 items significantly add to my upgrade cost when I could build another 754 box for practically nothing. Heck, I even have two S754 CPU's laying around...a Sempron 2800+ and an A64 3400+.
Have you tried reducing the CPU usage? That's what I ended up doing with a couple P4 PrescHOT's at work. I was able to bring the temps down about 5-7 degrees by cutting CPU usage back to 60%.
Thanks a bunch: I ratcheted it down to 75%. No problems. Thank God it's cooled off around here.
My dad would be proud of you.
Hooray, beer!
Laugh it up while you can. I'll soon leave you behind in the dust :)
Over the weekend half my machines couldn't upload or download from Stanford, and I fear I lost many WUs. So give me a few days and you'll feel like a DUmmie trying to catch a FREEPER (maybe this statement is a little overly cruel)

We are closing in on 10 MILLION points!!!!
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=36120
It's been a record breaking month...
Team Highest monthly total yet... team highest weekly total yet
Me, I've been in top 10 of all folders for daily points, weekly points, and 24hr average for the last 30 days... and gained over 70 spots to move up to #134
You're back to 51. Someone just left you behind (although I suspect we'll trade places a few times).
You may need an oxygen mask soon. That's rarified air up there :)
You're #8 today based on 24 hrs points average:

You're #9 based on points this week:

You're #11 based on points today:
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/individual_list.php?s=&srt=2
#131 of all folders based on total points (many ahead of you dropped back to less than 100 points/day)

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We're soooooooooooooo happy to have you on our team!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the first time that I can remember, it takes 400 points to be in our Top 20. Bobibutu is #20 with a 361 ppd average for the only exception.
I know that we have no control over the work units being given out, but our folks are sure generating a whole lotta points.
Having Klutz come back strong is gravy on the side.
An epic milestone is rapidly approaching.
We will be bypassing the Tasmanian Department of Education.
Time for a new thread. This one has been silent for a little while now, and a new one is likely to pull in new blood.
Besides we are in the top 75 (and I've gotten in below 50 and ltcj is still below that number). We don't need to get ahead of Tasmania to do this.
LTCJ, the above comment was just in fun. As I've climbed the positions list you have given me more of a challenge than anyone else. The next two weeks when I'm in Germany, I'll have two machines with me and not connected. Also I won't be able to reboot any machines that go down due to power failures (isn't St. Louis grand). So there is a chance that you may catch me and pass me yet again.
Joseph
is anyone out there is there a new thread did i git shut off thread did it git too hot and everyone stopped to stay cool
Cool? Between work, home, and work, I'm trying to keep 20 odd PC's folding, and you're talking cool? Ain't nothing cool about that (especially when over half of them are Intel boxes)!
It has gotten rather quiet in here though....
top 20 / 70k bump
Hey the thread has stalled a bit huh?
