Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 351 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 85th place (with 908 active CPUs - 47,400 completed Work Units and nearly 8.5 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 19 folding threads)

...and the only way that I can keep up with loading software, is to let my patchlink server do it 24x7...Now if I could just find time, to go load FAH on a couple or three hundred more.... :) Just a thought - couldn't your patchlink server do it for you?

Looks like my short lead over you has temporarily vanished. We'll be going back and forth for days.

I was perusing the top individual contributors and found "eastms.edu" - Eastern Mississippi Community College. They have had as many as 1,030 systems folding for their masters' bidding. Are these guys close to you?
If a group of Texans ever take a trip to MS to borg as many EAST MS CC systems as we can reach help to rebuild MS from all the Katrina damage, I will try to tag along.
Think that we could simply write a script that replaces the outdated client.cfg with a new improved (Team 36120) version? Hmmm, I might need to start playing around with that idea!

Had a power failure over the weekend and lost 2 machines for the whole time. A third machine was taken out by travel for most of it.
I'll probably slip one place over the next day or two and then recover nicely.

My main machine is unable to download work packet, cannot get work instructions. Any ideas where to start
To: colinhester
If you can get on the internet, then the problem is either with Stanford or with the F@H program.
1. Go to a website that you normally do not visit (eg walmart.com) and make sure that it loads a fresh page.
2. Wait a bit and see if F@H resolves the problem itself. If you see that we have no points or few points on the noon update at extreme overclocking, then Stanford is just overloaded. You were credited with a work unit at noon yesterday.
3. If the problem still persists, erase the contents of the F@H directory and reinstall into that directory. Sometimes bads stuff just happens to our F@H core, or the Windows system.
Still other potential problems but those are mostly proxy issues or ISP issues.
Hope this helps!

1) All webites appear to refresh as nornal.
2) Waited about 24 hours to post since I first noticed the problem. Looks like credited work unit was from secondaty machine. I'll give it another day and monitor extremeoverclockers and see what's going on. The main F@H site did not mention any troubles.
3) Please don't make me do this. I have a 4 day WU I want to get credit for.
Thanks for the reply......Colin

Had to go with option 3. Dumped old F@H folder and reinstalled. Looks like I'm up and running again. With all the people coming up on my tail 60 days out, I hated to be down any longer. Thanks so much for your help.....Colin
To: colinhester
I used to have links to a program that would reconstitute old WUs, but that link died when a hard drive crashed.
If teh WU transmitted, but a new WU wouldn't download, then you will get credit for the effort. I expect that this is the case here.
BTW, good job on reaching 40,000 points so fast. Should happen next week.

For comparison's sake, DU will overtake team #79, in 2433 days.

Reboot. That seems to be the only cure. I've tried reconfiguring FAH - I'll post in a couple of days if it works. (just got big WU - about 2 or 3 days to crunch)

Congrats! You folks are really coming on strong. I've been folding for Team AnandTech for awhile now, ever since Seti Classic FINALLY ended. Lately I've been very pleased to see you popping up on our "Threats" from the Extremeoverclocking stats page. Keep up the great work!

They probably moved their discussion to one of their private forums. It's the DUmmy trick to get us to give up so they can overtake us in the long run:)
DUmmies continue to produce approx. 12,000 points per day and will break into the Top 200 in a couple of weeks.
