NYC Subway Rider Critically Injured in Power-Saw Attack

NEW YORK — A man grabbed two cordless power saws off a subway station workbench and went on a rampage Thursday, swinging the saws at riders and slicing open a man's chest before running away, police said.

The 64-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Police were searching for the suspect, described by witnesses as a thin man in his 30s, who had earrings in both ears and was possibly carrying a teddy bear.

The attack occurred before dawn at a subway station a few blocks south of Columbia University.

Wielding a saw in each hand, the man took a swipe at one rider on a platform and missed, police said. Moments later, he cut into the man's chest at a turnstile before bolting out of the station, still carrying the power tools, which were later found in a trash can.

Police were reviewing security camera videotape.

We know he's thin, in his 30s, and carrying a teddy bear... and wearing earrings.

No mention of race, hair, or dress? If he ditches the teddy bear he'll be impossible to find if that's all they have on him.

"They really should ban saws up there. Bloomberg where are you?"

...yeah Bloomy...where's the litigation against the power tool manufacturers? They are as liable here as the fruitcake with the teddy bear. They should have known that these "tools" were going to fall into the wrong hands due to the lack of registration requirements to buy these items.

He should start his campaign of "No Power Tools in NYC"!!!!

How about a three-day waiting period for power tools. Or maybe a limit of one type of power tool purchased per month?

And backgroud check, of course.

A man running through the streets of New York with Gold Earrings carrying a teddy bear....

That makes it even harder for the police to find him. But if they do I bet they will find out the bear egged him on and made him do it. You can never trust those Teddy Bears as any reader of Theodore Sturgeon knows.

Let me guess. This happened just after the NY court ruled against gay marriage.

"See what happens when you sell power saws without trigger locks?"

(And yes, I agree, this is a story with real teeth in it.)

How about a three-day waiting period for power tools. Or maybe a limit of one type of power tool purchased per month?

But these are government saws (A man grabbed two cordless power saws off a subway station workbench), so they are perfectly safe and not a danger to anyone.
