Where Do We Go From Here?
The following is a disclaimer that is only necessary because as sure as liberals exist; They do violence to language by giving random and arbitrary meanings to words: This is not a call for violence, or revolt against this very corrupt government.
As an ex-liberal living behind liberal lines here in Marin County California, I am feeling lost, isolated and frustrated.
It has been a very hard week for conservatives. Judges in Arkansas tell us that we cannot prevent gays from adopting. President Bush has the mildest words for the traitorous actions of the New York Times. The Supreme Court says that terrorist enemy combatants are entitled to due process in civilian courts!!
How do we deal with an opposition that unrepentantly gives aid and comfort to evil? What actions can we take through the electoral process, when the Supreme Court makes up the United States Constitution as it goes along? I am still seething with anger over the courts action in overturning California proposition 187. How do we find the strength to respect the rule of law when our judges are amoral and corrupt? When our elected leaders pass laws they have no intention of enforcing, how can we continue to respect the electoral process?
My question is: Where do we go from here?
This is a serious question. I am sure that I am not the only one who needs encouragement right now. If you have an idea, let the world know.
Newbie, no vanities til ya earn your stripes
Very simple: work to get fewer Dems and more Republicans elected.
This is hardly end-of-the-world stuff (especailly since Bush is playing this story exactly as he should).
I wish one could point to a time in our history when everything went the "right" way, when there were no problems and nothing to worry about, but you can't, because that time never existed.
It's the unglamorous and often tedious work of just keeping on and supporting the good and fighting the bad that happens day in and day out that needs doin'. So...do it.
I'm not a newbie, in any way -- I was a conservative when conservative wasn't cool, stood up for the national anthem before movies {That was a while ago} when I was the only one in the theatre to do so. Reagan was the first winner I ever voted for.
But I'm discouraged too.
Tell me someone -- So we've controlled the House, and Senate for more than 10 years, and except for clinton, the White House since 1980.
What is it that we're accomplishing?
Let me add this -- I Don't consider winning elections of any import, if the people elected don't do anything to fix the problems.
One more add-on -- I'm a social conservative. Those are the accomplishments I'm interested in hearing about.
From your writing, it sounds like you have faith, but you are shaken. Remain steadfast and apply that faith towards making a change for the better by advancing conservative principals (through elections, demonstrations, events, organizations, online, and at home). Encourage others to do the same, but don't expect them to. People have to want to change.
Have fun.
Have you considered running for an office?
One more add-on -- I'm a social conservative. Those are the accomplishments I'm interested in hearing about.
We are learning to look beyond the political order/process for salvation. Millions of kids raised right (home schooled) are growing into their paws, and moving into influential positions in every field of endeavor. Millions of parents are no longer waiting for politicians to "do something." They are transforming the culture using their own resources.
I very much like this reply. It's just that I'm pretty much unaware of these successes.
Where for instance are these Voucher programs?
Where are the GOP elected leaders, who lead the attack on legal abortion?
I DO agree that anti-gun legislation has become a dead issue -- even the dems don't bring it up anymore.
But as for the conservative judges {and Justices} -- I haven't seen much in the way of results. Have you?
