The two casts you see, one for the Broken leg and the other is to raise the level or height of the other so there will not be resulting problems with other joints due to to un-natural height differences. Horses can and do die if they can not put weight on all fours. It is a testament to the people at Penn and to Barbaro himself that he lives! As heartbreaking as it is, it is a Miracle he is still here!
