In two more days, only 8 teams will remain in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
TODAY'S GAMES: Italy-Australia (11:00AM EST) followed by Swiss-Ukraine (3:00 PM EST).

That style of play will never win the World Cup - as Germany will find out when they play Argentina.
We need to utilise our midfielders like Gerrard and Lampard more with clever short passing. There were signs in the second half that were encouraging. A couple of passes went astray which could have been converted into goals.
Gerrard needs to push forward and support Rooney.
Is anyone having signal problems with the Italy game?
There was a power failure in Kaiserlauten, apparently. Feed's back up
Two yellows in one match should still result in a red and sending off for that match -- but no further suspension.
I think a suspension like that handed out to Ballack in 2002 is just ridiculous and serves no positive purpose. Thug moves like the hits on McBride and on C. Ronaldo yesterday deserve straight reds and suspensions. Professional fouls do not -- nor does stupidity like Deco's (though he did deserve the second yellow and the ensuing red).
No
16 mins: Italy are playing plenty of long balls at the moment. Very un-Italian. Perhaps they've been watching videos of England?
More BBC sarcasm, well-deserved IMHO.
So far it seems to me they're playing like gentlemen overall. Quite a change from yesterday.. :-)
"Did I mention I missed the Portugal/Netherlands match?"
Not a minute by minute description, but

does a good job of describing that particular kick-boxing game.
Must be Charter Comm...again..
Their fans are along with the English, probably the most football-obsessed. They'll probably jump off the Leaning Tower of Pisa, if the Aussies beat them.
A similar thought went through my mind. The amount of betting must be tremendous. It may have to do with the Brits and the legal betting that goes on there and not the Russian mob. Weaken both the Dutch and Portuguese teams so that they are understrength for England. Even going into a game with a yellow card from the previous game can cause problems on how a player plays.
Good hands by the Italian keeper. Go Aussies!
That's only because the Portuguese eliminated the Dutch.
Go Aussies! I don't like Italy because of their long tradition of flopping and dirty play.
I bet Marco Van Basten based last night's tactics on watching Baresi, Costacurta et al in training at Milan.
I would favor just treating each game separately. No carryover for yellow cards and no next game suspension for a red card based on two yellow cards with one exception. A flagrant or dangerous foul drawing a red card would mean a suspension for the next game or more games based on review of the incident.
Cup for women not a nightmare, but 'sex stimulus'

"....Forty-one percent of males and 35 percent of females are pleased to have sex after a soccer game, according to the report. So couples prefer to watch a soccer game for free, rather than spend money to see a movie."
the ausses are doing great.
I always root for the underdogs !
I agree completely; that's how most sports are handled. Suspensions should be rare.
Yeah, I dont see why reds and yellows should result in automatic suspension. For really nasty or dangerous play, fine, but going off in the game currently on should be punishment enough for a red card.
